Hopefully some new A&B comes sooner rather than later. His solo album that just came out was, uhhhh, not good.
Was there bad blood there? Or were they just trying to drive the point home that they weren't reuniting?
So idk if bad blood is a thing with Stephen but it doesn’t really seem like it is between these guys.
Stephen has this really weird contradiction as coming across extremely genuine and nice in interviews and being very troll-like on twitter. So who knows. He’s probably just fucking around.
I think he tends (or tended in the past) to speak with a lot of hyperbole and exaggeration, and could sometimes come across as contradictory because of that. I don't think there is bad blood per se, but I do think that Stephen was really ready to be done and out of the band while the other guys might've not been to quite that point yet, so if there is any strain in their relationships, I would guess that it has something to do with that.
Stephen Christian Interview, Stephen Christian 2017, Jesusfreakhideout.com InterviewThis was an interesting read. Talks about Anberlin a bit too.
I don’t think this band is ever coming back after reading some interviews today Frontlines: A Conversation With Stephen Christian, Part 2
Wow, those are kinda hard to read. He's still contradicting himself a lot, or contradicting what he has said in the past. He says that he was ready to be done with the band in 2012? That's around when Vital came out and I find that hard to believe. It really seemed like they all loved that record and they all felt so strongly about it being their big return to form and their best work ever. When I interviewed him around the time of their final tour, I remember him telling me that announcing their breakup in early 2014 revitalized him a lot and made him appreciate every song and every show so much more, but then after they ended, I read an interview where he said that there were a lot of times during the final tour where he just wanted to quit on the spot because he was so done with it and so ready to be home. It's hard to know what to believe from him sometimes, and I think he can really tell totally different stories based on the person or the publication he's speaking with. I'm sure that everything he says is rooted in reality, but it's hard to know whether he'll feel the same way in a few months or a year or whether he'll give an interview that says something totally different (like now he says he misses touring and misses being on the road with a bunch of guys, when he gave that as pretty much the #1 reason for ending Anberlin, so he could be off the road and spend all his time with his family). I still think he's awesome, and I imagine that if I were in a position like that, I too would give different interviews based on what kind of mood I was in that day, but it does make it difficult to know what to believe from him.
Kinda surprising to me that there weren't really other Christians in the band and that drugs were involved. Never would have imagined that with Anberlin.
Didn’t they kick out the first rhythm guitarist for being too much into the ‘rock star’ lifestyle? Pretty sure the song NTFP was about him too.
Oh yeah, I do remember reading that back then. It's just a bit surprising that drugs and groupies were a thing with the final line-up, if I'm reading it correctly.
reading the quote, i don't think he's talking about the guys in his own band, but the bands he was touring with / aka tour life realities.
I mean, it wouldn't surprise me at all if someone in Anberlin smoked some weed every once in a while. Also, Nate was pretty young and grew up on the road. I could definitely see the part about girls applying to him, but that is pure speculation.
