i listened all the way through this weekend and it's not awful, it's just not necessary at all. the original is superior and didn't need to be touched.
The project he formed right after There For Tomorrow’s demise (Afterhours or something) was so good, it’s a shame they only put out a couple songs
They’re scrubbing negative comments? That’s insane. Ugh. What happened to this band? I’m so disappointed.
This is what I was talking about before and where it's gone from "not for me; glad they're getting paid," to actively disappointing (and imo legacy harming!) to see a top 20, maybe top 10, band for me actively making me bummed out and not wanting to listen to them.
it's braindead to respond to criticism like that. they themselves have acknowledged that not everyone will be on board with this. if their comments are filled with others praising their decisions, why do they feel the need to scoff at those who don't like those decisions (or even delete them)? why waste your energy on downplaying someone else's opinion - an opinion possibly from someone who gave the new thing a chance and just didn't resonate with it? not everyone who hates it and comments their thoughts is a troll.
i do social media / marketing for a living and it's crazy to me how often i have to tell companies NOT to do this. you're doing nothing but making yourself feel better for about 0.2 seconds.
Early on they reposted some YouTube music reactors or some shit saying that if someone doesn’t like Marty doing this, they aren’t a real Anberlin fan. Just dumb and foolish for the band to promote.
i remember those guys. they show up on my Instagram every now and then. seem to be huge MMF fans, so that comment unfortunately tracks
Got curious and went further back on older posts. Yeah this shit sucks. Edit: And the guy only posted his comment because a bunch of people were posting dorky “Matty IS Anberlin” comments.
I actually have to side with the band member in these posts because that guy is being a self-entitled douche about their career. Not liking their decision is one thing, but that guy has dangerously veered out of line.
Yeah, I'm not sure why people are so bothered. Let them do their thing and just ignore it. It's definitely weird to think the band should stop just because some fans don't like it. If enough people enjoy this version of Anberlin, they'll be able to continue, if they don't then they'll have to hang it up anyway.
I feel like it’s one thing to talk about disliking the bands current direction on a forum like this, and another to be obnoxious about it in their Instagram comments. The band shouldn’t be engaging with the trolls like this either though. I just think those comments are a bad look for everyone involved.
I definitely understand those points and I personally wouldn't be the person to be commenting like that in their Instagram posts. I do also agree the band shouldn't be engaging with it, and certainly not the way they are. There is a way to engage with people like that with a simple "We're sorry you feel that way and understand where you're coming from. This is our current direction and appreciate you listening over the years", etc. which doesn't exacerbate the situation in either direction.
it's a decent way to respond without being combative. they're always gonna get comments of that nature regardless of the lineup. the least they could do is either respond with grace or not at all (although i still think clarifying Stephen's involvement with the band - or at least with recorded material - might keep a few snide commenters at bay)
couple of lyrics that seem unfortunately relevant now: "it's not about the money we make, it's about the passions that we ache for" "I don't want to go now, but I've got to, for you to remember me in this light"
Yeah, “People lose jobs all the time, it isn’t the end of the world” is honestly douchier than anything any of the band members have said. Inclined to agree that some of these commenters took it way too far themselves.
