Listening to Nevertake got me to listen to High Stakes and wow if Christian was singing that song, it would be one of my favorites of theirs in a while
I admittedly didn’t listen too closely to the lyrics. The chorus melody is stuck in my head but I don’t know the words lol
High stakes fucks. I have no idea what he’s singing. Not my native language. these two statements probably feed into each other haha
Dah dah dah dah on the table Dah dah dah dah play the player Heh heh heartbreak heh heh some-thing is what’s in my head
Couldn’t get past two songs on Nevertake. It’s just not the same without Stephen and I’d rather them take a break til he can come back ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If I were to guess, they aren't going to re-record any other full albums but I could see them re-recording a greatest hits of sorts. This era of the band seems to be all about the least common denominator musically, they say the new stuff was too far out there, the new Matty songs are straightforward as hell, they are touring on the most nostalgic album of the band.... I feel like when you get into more diehard fan-focused deep cuts, or or albums, they have no need to go there. But who knows......
you might be right. if they do a whole album rerecord, i'd say Cities is most likely, maybe New Surrender. no chance in hell they do the others in full. either way, i'm not excited
im a decently big memphis fan and i will not be coming out for this, my friend literally hit me up last night saying he got 4 free tix to the rave show next weekend in milwaukee and it was just the hardest pass
You’re right and I feel like it’s because they are being fronted by a fan. So that fan is going to probably push them into what he wants to hear out of the band
Just wanted to say thanks to both of you… this master of the album sounds VASTLY better on Spotify also!! Always drove me nuts that I had to crank up the volume so much for that album. This version sounds great.
Haven't listened to NTFP in a long time, so decided to pop on that version from the anthology. There was no reason for this to be re-recorded. It still sounds fantastic. I always say Cities is my favorite, but man, NTFP might be an incredibly close second, but probably closer to a 1a to 1b for me.
It’s weird to think that under new release algorithms some people will have listened to the new version as their first ever Anberlin experience…
Listened to Nevertake on my way to work this morning. Didn't do much other than make me want to listen to the entire catalog with the OG singer.
okay I gave some listens and to be honest, Feel Good Drag sounds pretty solid, but it really just sounds like a major Stephen impression and if they had just released a handful of songs and this was one of them, then sure, cool, he did it. but now I'm listening to Blasé and wow this has nowhere near the feeling of the original and should have been stopped, yikes
man, I dunno. I am only like two minutes into this and while I am thrown off by Matty in general, and everything we have talked about, the cadence of how he sings the chorus of the title track is so.... robotic and staccato and just doesn't flow, it's so weird. "If. You. Can't. Hold. Yourself. To. Geth. Her." why does he sing it like that?!?!
this sounds like Fearless Records were putting together Pop Goes Anberlin, but only were able to get one band on board for the compilation
