Probably the best executed re-record. I feel like the only way it could potentially be bested is if Manchester Orchestra decided to re-record any of their first three albums.
it's not that the instrumental is bad, it's just boring and doesn't really go anywhere. if this were on the original album it would throw off the flow of the back half
Does anyone have the video files of the lockdown livestreams? I have the ones for NTFP and Vital, but I never got a chance to grab the others. That’s how I’ll choose to remember the band.
I have them on vinyl. Does that help? Also, did listen to NeverTake. Oof. Marty just is not a good fit here. Thought Symphony suffered the most vocally. Just totally lifeless and dull. Just not sure who this is really for. Why would any Anberlin fan ever listen to this when the OG exists? All the more glad I caught the 3 nights in Orlando in January 2023. Between the smaller venue, playing ReadyFuels over Burns Out, and Stephen honoring my request for Self-Starter as an encore on night 2 that’s a nice farewell to the band.
Weird. I just compared my 20 year old ripped version to the Spotify version of Blueprints for City Friendships. and the Spotify version is much quieter than my ripped copy. and the Spotfiy version of the regular NTFP sounds similar to Blueprints for City Friendships. my ripped copy sounds way louder and fuller than the Spotify versions.
lol I like the back end of the Anberlin catalogue way more than the early records and I was thinking of how uninterested I’d feel hearing Stranger Ways or Other Side re-recorded this AM. Those two are dark horse incredible songs that don’t get enough love.
If they're releasing this version of NTFP in 2025, that means we're due for the band going on another hiatus in 2034.
Only heard a few snippets but I’ll at least say I appreciate the return of the scream to feel good drag. Naturally his voice fits in a touch better on the more aggressive songs but I see some comments saying this is a good fit and I just feel like I exist in a different world than those opinions. It’s one thing to say you like the 2018 metalcore vocals on a 20 year old pop punk/emo/indie song, there’s probably a world in which I’d agree for a different band, but the assertion that this is a good fit is just mind bending to me, it is the musical antithesis of what anberlin did best and uniquely. There is no thread that can pass through these needles.
My biggest hope is that they re-record New Surrender so we get a 4th version of Feel Good Drag. god Dance, Dance on this feels _wrong_
Saw someone on Reddit say that song sounds more complete now at extended length. What a time to be alive.
