it is, lol. was also never a fan of T&N's 3 album compilations back in the day, but it seems to be the only accessible way to get the better master.
God, I am already afraid of 2027. Cities 20 years anniversary. Before all of this I would have beeen excited, now not so much. Yikes.
unfortunately Joey just confirmed on the band's IG that they're planning more rerecordings in the future
I only listened to a couple tracks of this, but my biggest complaint is that it's just Matty doing a (bad) Stephen impersonation instead of putting his own spin on things. I don't love his vocals, generally, but that would've been much more interesting at least on first listen. Also, it's completely heartbreaking to hear "Time & Confusion", a song about the love and friendship among the band members, in this manner.
I didn't realize the albums in that collection were remastered! I've just had the original discs for NTFP and Cities, great as they sound.
i mean i had a CD rip of the original NTFP CD for years from my old local library, and when i went to upgrade it to FLAC, i grabbed the digital version expecting the same master, but it was quieter. that didn't happen with the compilation master, which i'm assuming was that original master at its original loudness.
i was on board with the band swapping vocalists initially but this re-recording is like… borderline offensive??? not even just the vocals on them- the songs are missing so much flair the original versions had.
I dunno, I’m kind of enjoying hearing a newer take, instrumentally, of this album. Kinda reminds me of getting the livestream recordings of the older records. To be clear, I’m not saying it’s better than the original. But like I said earlier, hearing Nate’s drumming pop is fun for me.
This sounds like the YouTube covers of songs that I find pretty obnoxious. Like the cover of this album should just be a dude with a beard making a weird face with a yellow font saying “what if Matty Mullins sang for Anberlin?!!”
Only made it 1:15 into the first song and while I don't think it's terrible, it does sound like a cover.
Listened to the re-recording on my way to work this morning. The songs where the auditory tinfoil is toned down a bit (the title track, Runaways, Time and Confusion) are tolerable. Other than that, it’s basically just the band erasing what made them unique and special. It’s funny how they touted Audrey as the song where they “got it right this time” in regard to the re-recording and it has the most generic, lifeless vocal performance over it. It goes without saying but I won’t be listening to this version again.
No, the video title would be "what if Matty Mullins sang for Anberlin?" but the text on the thumbnail would be like MATTY MULLINS in ANBERLIN?!?!?!? (I hate how I can perfectly picture the thumbnail)
