Jesus those vocals are so ridiculously processed. It sounds like a chorus of AI vocoder metalcore clean vocalist robots. Just horrible.

Between the reunion only 5 years after the breakup, the Vega "album," the wishy-washiness of Stephen's status in the band, and this nonsense, they are really cheapening their legacy. It's unbelievable how differently I feel about this band now.

i think i'm also at a point where the more i hear about Stephen's association with questionable religious/political figures and beliefs, the less interested i am in hearing new music from him in any capacity. maybe if he had kept his mouth shut it'd be different

The discourse around this is more entertaining than any rerecordings could ever be. As always, I can kinda see where the band is coming from, but the moves are just weird. Like, if this goes over well, are they gonna do Cities (Matty's Version) in a couple of years?

 

assuming he's still in the band at point (he probably will be), i'd say it's likely. maybe even for New Surrender too.

 

You couldn't pay me to listen to this band with Matty, especially after the descriptions in here. Descriptions that sound exactly like I'd expect anyway. lol

He's also a piece of shit, so fuck him.

So yea I’m just venting along with the choir here but I have never wanted to hear an early-00s alt rock song with 2011 metalcore cleans. I’m constantly aghast that people are cheering this on in 2025.

 

Those 35-45 year old men are hot. Thats what I got out of this video. Version of this song sucks though

 

y i k e y that was not a good listen. Feels like they are parodying themselves at this point, while at the same time trying to cash in on a hit from 20 years ago. Not sure how they went from putting out amazing new music with Stephen just 2 years ago to this.

 

Thrice walked so Anberlin could crash and burn.

 

Usually bands only do things like this so they don't have to pay royalties to someone.

 

I read this like 3 times cause I thought you meant that it didn’t make sense in this case. But now I see that it may actually fit here.

 

We had such promise with Silverline and Convinced. I truly felt like we were “back” after not digging Lowborn after Vital being such a high.
Going from those power-packed EPs to this is disappointing to say the least.

 

This just feels so unnecessary. I mean, fix the masters of the original Never Take Friendship Personal on streaming first at the very least.

 

This is clearly not for Anberlin fans.

This is a cheap move to bring in MMF/Matty fans to stream/buy the new versions.

They know how much the majority of their core and even casual fans hate this. Their Instagram/youtube comments are clearly being scrubbed of anything but praise.

They simply don’t care.

 

I saw the Matty thing on the front page this morning and immediately rushed here and y’all already have like 4 pages of discussions for me to catch up on lol

 

So far as I know, the Artist re-record was to celebrate its anniversary, as well as correct production they'd always been less than pleased with. Same members too, so it's well justified in my mind.

This is... pointless. NTFP's production honestly still holds up great, and this seems to exist solely to generate buzz around a new vocalist rather than celebrate the album (never mind that this does happen to be the 20-year mark...).

Fair; I just thought Thrice's results were well above "walking".
