Kind of wild the vinyl listings don't include these details: "A true lighthouse for the entire genre, this fully restored 2LP set features an embossed front cover, a full audio remaster for vinyl by Troy Glessner @ Spectre Studios, 5 individual art prints (featuring each band member’s unique bust WITH a corresponding retrospective from each member & a LOST SONGS cover art print), an etched D Side, and 6 bonus tracks from the “Lost Songs” release, all on gorgeous colored vinyl." Makes this quite a bit more appealing of a release, knowing this info.
My guess is because it’s a song that never made it far enough in the production process to come under ownership by the record label, and remained with the band. And this particular reissue isn’t being done by the band, at least the music side of it…it’s all music that falls under Capitol’s umbrella. If that makes sense.
if anything, my hope is that the Universal/Capitol Special Collections folks could get together and do an expanded Lost Songs set with all of the T&N/Republic B-sides (assuming the band would also have access to the extra Devotion songs exclusive to Big3)
Every now and again I throw on those first couple Anchor & Braille albums and they hold up really well for me. Summer Tongues and Before I Start Dreaming are incredible.
Summer Tongues is probably my favorite A&B song. I love it because it sounds like it would fit right in on Copeland's You Are My Sunshine.
Thought the last A&B release was Songs For The Late Night Drive Home but that was 2016! Completely forgot about Tension - that itself was 2020. I need to revisit that one.
I wonder if there's more chance of Stephen making a new A&B record with the Anberlin situation as it stands.
Stephen finished an Anchor & Braille record last year, and the bands Instagram has started teasing recently so hopefully we hear something soon.
How did I not know this either?! I either knew and forgot or I just missed this. Thanks for the update!
I don’t think it was talked about too much honestly, so not too hard to miss. I’m guessing at this point it doesn’t cost that much for Stephen to make an A&B record so my guess is he’ll be more of a studio artist going forward and we’ll just get A&B every few years.
Really like songs for the late night drive but I don’t return to it as much. I liked Tension at the time but I haven’t had any desire to return to it.
give it another shot, it might surprise you, he takes a few chances on it that you wouldn't expect but I think they pay off
i just remember some songs being forgettable and the lyricism being occasionally bad (i.e. Closer & Farther), but i love those first 3 albums, so i'll give it another chance
Tension to me is like, a near perfect album that I also never find myself even remembering to go back to.
