Oh that's right, I was thinking it was one of the New Surrender B-sides

the playable vinyl top sounds like shit (because obviously it does), but the song is fantastic. putting it in a disc drive also brings up the Impossible video.

Still one of the most unique items in my collection, haha. I wish the vinyl top sounded better, though.

I forgot the Vinyldisc was even a thing, there can't be many other bands that did that? The only other one I know is Paramore had a Misery Business/B-Side release

There was a bootleg of the Devotion bonus tracks floating around on eBay a little while ago, but it's not the same thing.

The whole album is indeed due for a proper vinyl press.

i really wonder what the rights scenario is with that album, because they originally released it on Republic, but went to indie label Big3 for Devotion. looking through the booklet, the copyright is listed as Anberlin under exclusive rights to Big3, which leads me to think they got the rights back for the album. but then in the Help Yourself boxset, the copyright on Vital is still under Republic.

all of that to say, i'm wondering if they have the capacity to press either version of the album, or if they have to jump through some hoops to do so. from what i can tell, Big3 hasn't updated their website since 2016, so they might be defunct.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I'd Like to Die is one of my favourite Anberlin songs overall

edit: the bozo in the clip says that if you don’t support Marty being the singer you aren’t a real fan cause he was chosen by Stephen.

Those guys routinely have terrible takes and promote some absolutely garbage music on their channel

  14. Fake fan over here I guess. Somehow ok with it.

Yes, my 20 years being a fan is definitely all fake because the person who joined the band a few months ago sings bad, yes this makes sense

  16. Finally listened to the new song and it's interesting how much the instrumentation feels like a blend of their early stuff with some of their modern trademarks (low guitar tuning, 80s synths and electronic touches sprinkled in etc.). I can hear the Anberlin touch BUT Matty's vocal approach, especially the whoaohs, takes me out of it as it makes them sound like a different band than even the one that put out the newest EPs.

i've seen the guy on the right before. iirc, he has a workout clothing company that just did a collaboration with MMF, so ofc he's gonna like Matty. but yeah, not a good take.

I've never listened to Devotion as a whole, just Vital front to back then Devotion tracks as bonus tracks

Remember the album brackets several years ago? I was curious about Devotion, totally forgot Self Starter won.

Type Three is still my favorite song of Vital/Devotion

it's a different experience for sure, but a fun one.

before Devotion was announced, i think my preferred order was the standard album, Said Too Much, No Love to Speak, Safe Here, and then Unstable. putting Unstable as track 6 on Devotion took some getting used to, but it works well. the others more or less maintained their sequencing in the final Devotion tracklist, albeit integrated into the album itself.

love love love Type Three. i remember when Self-Starter first premiered. i was a senior in high school and had just come back from lunch when they dropped it on SoundCloud. found a way to extract the audio and played the shit out of it until it got an official release. it's just the perfect encapsulation of what they were trying to do with the album - something heavier and more mature than what had come before, but still rooted in that classic sound and production style that Aaron Sprinkle provided.

We reach for the longest shadow

Desire is my personal favorite on that album, but Self-Starter makes sense, as an aggressive first single and opener. Definitely a "we are so back" moment after DITW.
