Looks like the band are doing Never Take Friendship Personal in full at next year’s When We Were Young fest.

Hard to say if Stephen will appear or not, seems unlikely…

I’ll just say it…obviously the band can do whatever they like but this is such a bulshit.Sorry.

No way a fest is booking NTFP in full without Stephen. He'll be back for that one.

I dunno, all the clips Matty posted are from NTFP. He’s definitely practicing for the WWWY set.

I don’t see any reason to think Stephen would be doing the show. Maybe if it was in FL. But Vegas? I’d be shocked.

It would also be very stupid to announce the December shows as his last NA shows for the foreseeable future to then announce a show next year.

    Ronstile.

lol they haven't even done official shows yet and the "when is Stephen" gripes have already started.

IMO I am not a fan of Matty being the guy, but objectively it will be great for the band and be an era for them. I am just glad Stephen will be on the next record. The EPs were cool and I am excited to hear a full proper release from them.

I hardly think they should be projecting anything as being "for the foreseeable future." Feels like Charlie Brown and Lucy with the football at this point. They don't know what they're going to want a year or two from now and it's silly that they keep pretending they do and marketing their current survival choices as an artistic era rather than a tentative experiment.

Pretty much. Only curveball would be if it’s considered some sort of “special exception” and Stephen turns up as a guest for a couple tracks, but I would tend to agree that this is 99% chance a Matty show.

    Just so we’re all clear:

nothing this band says matters. :fingerscrossed:

I get what he meant… popularity-wise they’ll probably get some new fans from him. I’m not really into his style for this band either but I can see it being a good career move.

We reach for the longest shadow

At this point I would be shocked if there isn't either a "Greatest Hits" with Matty recorded or at least an EP of the "hits" from NTFP to get people hyped up for their WWWY fest. It will definitely be Matty there, all these IG posts line up too much with that announcement.

    this is all there is

Whoever compared these Matty clips to Alex-whoever on Youtube who generally makes covers is spot on.

Maybe one of the layers in there is him singing it live, but it straight up looks like karoake (and I know millions of people on Tiktok are into that) but it just looks so fake to me. If you're gonna post clips like that, I'd much rather just hear the live vocal and not all the layers and processing.

I don't follow him or Anberlin on socials so maybe they've posted it and I missed it, but I'd be much more interested in seeing a live acoustic cover or a quieter song to really showcase more of the heart of the band rather than the big-alt-rock-chorus-brand of the band.

But, if fans are digging it, and it helps the other guys continue their career, I get it.

    Things have changed.

Having Matty on these songs really accentuates the butt-rock-adjacent nature of Anberlin that they mostly kept under wraps for most of their career.

Can't think of any combination of words that drives me up the wall more than "butt rock".

Danny Wimmer rock? Military town rock? [extreme radio guy voice] Active rock?

  21. Penlab

I mean, active rock is actually what the format is called, but depending on the band there's hard rock, nu-metal, post-grunge.

I guess I don't understand the need to be insulting about it.

    this is all there is

is it a heavy part or is it just butt chugs?

A fine line that many bands must contend with.
