Fully agree with this. Imagine how much more talked about on this site their new music would be if it were the first new album in 8 years and not an EP that might lead to another EP that might be combined to be an album etc etc
i just don't like the idea of splitting what could easily be one full body of work without just cause. for example: if everything doesn't fit cohesively into one album, then great. maybe 2 EPs is the way to go (a great example of this was the EP/LP trilogy that Nine Inch Nails did between 2016 and 2018 - all connected, but each one different in their own way). if it's that you're still recording new stuff (which i believe was the case when they announced Silverline), then drop a single here and there, and wait until you have every song in hand before releasing a full body of work. if there are songs that don't fit, hold onto them or release them as bonus tracks somehow. I guess a recent counterexample to this was Beach House. by releasing their new album as 4 "chapters", it kept the hype going for the album to follow. the difference here though is that they didn't want to cut anything, nor were they still in the midst of recording when releasing the first part. Anberlin isn't fully finished with this series of songs. i'm not ultimately opposed to these songs being released separately if the band feels that it's the best course, but my worry (echoed by others) is that these bodies of work won't be seen in the same light as a full album, nor would we get the full experience of having everything combined into one cohesive LP.
From what he said yesterday,I did get that the Silverline is stand alone EP and they getting ready the full length album for the next year….but yea he didn’t look so sure haha
I'm all for the full-length album approach but I can see the appeal, from the band's perspective, of releasing an EP and having a lot more attention on the 5-6 songs than they might individually get on a full-length. I don't know the streaming metrics or anything like that but it kinda makes sense to me from that angle??
I don’t give a shit how they release music. I’m just happy for them that they got back together and felt good enough to make new material. Wasn’t there articles/interviews about how there were issues within the band after they broke up in 2014? If those were true, I’m glad they worked through it and seem to be on great terms these days. They can do whatever they want to.
Went to see them in Asbury Park tonight for Cities, and they closed their encore with The Haunting! It was amazing! Honestly wasn't sure I'd ever see that one live. Great performance overall. Their interaction with the crowd was great. Cracking jokes with people, bringing people on stage to dance, and even filmed most of "Inevitable" on a guy's cell phone for his wife who was home with the kids (I think he said it was their wedding song). Another fantastic show from Anberlin. They never fail.
Secretly bought the plus 1 tickets to the 3 night stint in FL. Stoked for this!! So happy to hear people’s stories. They played Haunting at the last VIP M&G I saw them at for my fiancé. Probably a top 10 memorable moment for her. “Will you guys ever play Haunting?!” “No……. But we will right now”
Well, officially leading into my wedding weekend so I figured I’d be safe to share this here: my fiancé and I were friends in college and both mutually loved Anberlin. As fate would have it, we started dating shortly after Vital was released. We both were obsessed with “Other Side” from the get-go, and has always been “our song” in our hearts. I was able to book Stephen and Christian for some studio time to create an acoustic version of the song that will be played at our wedding. Complete surprise for her. She thinks my best friend is going to be playing an acoustic version of it. When in reality, he’s going to go up to the mic and pretend to start playing and then say “let’s have the actual band play it”. Works so perfectly because the beginning of the song has a perfect intro from the two of them as well as well wishes for the future. She is going. To. Freak. Been holding on to that secret forever. That whole process is also how I found out they were recording EP’s, but I was sworn to secrecy.
Wow that's amazing! What a wonderful surprise...and major props to the guys for being willing to do that for you. Congrats on getting married!
This is legit. Such a cool surprise and she’s totally going to love that. Good on you for pulling this off for her.
Dude this warms my heart so much. Enjoy your weekend man! Your wedding day goes by so fast, savor it!
