I doubt Lowborn is a favorite for most Anberlin fans but the direction they went on it was great and seven years later I'm very interested to hear where they ended up. Not to start a secondary conversation but what does all this time away do to the evolution of their sound? Guess we'll hear a hint very soon.
Lowborn always felt like an incomplete record to me but there’s a few amazing songs like Stranger Ways, Velvet, Losing It All, and Hearing Voices on it.
The evolution of their sound always intrigued me in a way no other band has. The bonus tracks from Devotion make me very interested to hear what 7 years off had done to their sound
my ideal Anberlin 2021 sound incorporates the voracity of Vital/Devotion, the experimentation of Lowborn, and the darker tones/give-no-fucks attitude of DITW. those 3 albums are the ones i revisit the most, and i think it they expanded off those ideas from Devotion and Lowborn more, it would sound like the most natural progression for them.
Their latest Instagram post says they’re playing a new song… so… maybe wishes come true? At least partially?
DITW is such a fascinating record to me. From a songwriting perspective, it's in the lower tier of Anberlin's records (not saying much cause I love it all), but I think it might actually sound the best and it puts me in a uniquely sad, reflective mood. There's just something in every Anberlin record.
Haha you're gonna get pushback for this post but I'll throw out my support early on to say DITW is probably my least favorite from the band. I rarely listen to it.
Dark Is The Way is possibly my favorite Anberlin record. It’s easily their best sounding one and songs like Closer, Pray Tell, Art of War, and Down are some of my favorite Anberlin songs of all time.
Brendan O’Brien nailed DITW. It’s not something I really associate with their “sound”, but it’s probably my favorite sounding of their records. He also did a great job on Gaslights “Handwritten” and record has always felt closely associated to DITW to me.
Honestly wasn't expecting new Anberlin to be heavy at all, so I'm here for it. Throw us back to NTFP or some shit.
