Summer Tongues and Before I Start Dreaming are two of my favorite things Stephen Christian is involved in period.
I'd say my least favorite on cities is reclusion. Just always fell flat for me and kind of brings the album to a halt for me. Still, one of my all time favorite albums.
I think Adelaide is the worst in the context of Cities. It doesn't fit on that record at all. At least it's early enough that the album can move past it. Outside of the album it's a fun catchy song. It's not a bad song by any means. It just has no place on that album. Doesn't fit sonically, lyrically, or thematically. I feel like the band has said something along these lines in recent years. Well, the part about it not really fitting on the album.
I think it fits and adds another dimension to it that wouldn't be there if it was removed. I love that song though so maybe I'm biased.
I love Adelaide although yeah it's pretty wildly different from the rest of cities. I think it works well after Godspeed tho
Adelaide would probably *fit* better in NS, but i don't think it sticks out in a bad way. But perhaps I've just listened to that record for so long I'm just used to it. Adelaide would probably also be the best song on NS other than maybe Breaking (fuck that should have made my list lol)
I think it would stick out more on NS because it's a way better song than anything on there and it still sounds closer to the stuff on Cities even if it is an outlier stylistically.
NS is all over the place, so in that way Adelaide would fit on there, for sure. There are quite a few tracks on there I would cut and put that in its place.
Dismantle. Repair is probably my favorite Anberlin song. That bridge is nuts. This is one of those bands that I really do love, like a lot, but for whatever reason I just kind of forget about them, which is sad because theres a lot to love about their catalog. I also agree with that Sputnik list more-so than most of you although I do have my issues with it (Disappear at the bottom is criminal).
Adelaide is perfect and I can't imagine it anywhere but track 3 of Cities and I will punch anyone in the face who disagrees
Adelaide is fantastic. Idk about it being on NS, but overall I find NS to be their weakest project (stupid label) even though there were some standouts. Still good, just probably last on my ranking.
Okay, Top 10 least favorite/always skipped songs from Anberlin 10. (debut) (Cities) 9. Cold War Transmission (Blueprints...) 8. Said and Done (New Surrender bonus) 7. Like a Rolling Stone (Lost Songs) 6. Love Song (Blueprints...) 5. Birds of Prey (Lowborn) 4. Miserabile Visu (New Surrender) 3. Everything in Between (Lost Songs) 2. You Belong Here (Dark is the Way...) 1. Unwinding Cable Car (Cities) Just kidding :) 1. Downtown Song (Lost Songs)
Most skipped (not including demos): 1. Said and Done 2. Change the World (Lost Ones) 3. A Perfect Tourniquet 4. City Electric 5. Younglife 6. Said Too Much (love the song itself, but production is weird) 7. Retrace 8. The Undeveloped Story 9. Art of War (love the song, once again, but maybe my least favorite Anberlin lyrics) 10. Orpheum
Choosing bsides is a cop out. Mine would probably just be Dark is the Way with a few NS songs mixed in.
oh nooooooo! That song is a needed heavy track to break up all the softies on the album. The bridge and outro on that song is awesome!
Least favorites or most skipped? The tracks off of Blue Prints that aren't Glass to Arson, Readyfuels or Change the World.
