I was sure this band's heaviest days were long behind them, but damn this absolutely rips. Lacerate sounds like the direction Underoath's been trying to take on their last couple albums, but executed much better imo.
This has been the biggest thing holding me back from enjoying the recent offerings. I kind of suspect that the recordings are done live, the same way the lockdown livestreams were done. The mixing quality is the same and there are lots of vocal parts that obviously could have used a re-take. It's weird, like you said - it's not muddy per se, but I can't distinguish a single thing going on in the instrumental.
to me that's a symptom of the song trying to fit too many ideas into one. as one of my favorite bands, my biggest criticism about their songs is that they struggle with dynamics, and this song is no different. Even in the calmer moments, they are combining too many production effects negating the relief.
I’m obsessed with Lacerate. I had grown tired of Stephen’s voice being soooo front and center on everything. Love the way he fits into the mix in this.
i really dig this (VPN), but i have no idea how they'll be able to sequence these two EPs together into an album should they continue going down that route. if this is most of LP8, it could definitely benefit from a couple extra tracks. i now want a whole album that sounds like Animals.
WHOOOAAAAA Animals! Been a minute since a transition has really left me with that "wtf just happened" feeling.
Man. This is so good. I love how they’ve been pushing themselves and their sound with these releases. Animals is HUGE in so many ways. Never could’ve imagined them releasing something like this back in the day. I was worried about all the oceans sounds talk, but I actually love the way it fades from that jazz outro into it. It’s honestly kind of soothing haha. Hoping they just leave this and Silverline as separate releases. Wouldn’t make a lot of sense to me to combine them.
I had fully believed songs like Animals, Lacerate, and Two Graves were way behind them. I'm so happy with these EP's
the songs i wasn't as big of a fan of on Convinced have really grown on me today for some reason. still think Silverline flows better than Convinced, but the latter is a lot stronger, imo.
Because I'm weak and just really want a full length Anberlin album, decided to try out a sequence. This one really works IMO. Surprised at how cohesive it can all sound together:
i like the order, although i'd maybe split up banshee and body language just because they're pretty similar...but they do flow nicely. either way, listening to these combined and picturing it as an album really strengthens both EPs in my opinion...they play well together
Go shot for shot on song track list Two Graves v. Lacerate Nothing Lost v. Decoder Body Language v. Bansheeee Asking v. Animals Circles v. Nothing More
I'm kinda torn between having a hard time loving this band like I used to, and thinking Lacerate is an absolute monster. such a fresh sound for them that really works
Lmao yeah, why’d they even keep the show if he’s missing only one? They’re going to play only 7 songs too.
I'd be curious, but based off what I know (only his song on that Yellowcard album), I do NOT like his voice
But not in the “this is the show I paid money to see Anberlin at” way, more in the “oops I stumbled onto an Anberlin show on a street corner and there’s another guy singing, this is interesting…” kind of way right? Haha
I’m here and it’s different but not in a bad way. Missing Stephen’s vocals on some of the songs for sure.
