Imagine collecting sickle points and pretending you care about the well-being of the repressed yet intentionally and undemocratically putting them in further danger when they already are putting themselves on the line in the streets.

Imagine most of these people being white and able-bodied.

"It may be that the black bloc’s time is over, that it remains completely inadequate to our present conjuncture. But it may also be the case that we can find ways to reintegrate the bloc into today’s struggles, which might ultimately make our movements even stronger. We will get nowhere by indulging in knee-jerk denunciations based in moralism, dubious appeals to the authority of history, or fixed ideas about what struggles ought to look like, as the real struggles rage outside. We have to begin with a concrete analysis of the concrete situation to see what kind of political experiments we need today, making sure we don’t miss the possibilities of unprecedented events. Instead of drawing conclusions from behind closed doors, we should base our strategy on what’s happening in the streets."

Looks like only a couple pieces will be available online but I'm definitely reading the Chibber and Majumdar articles. Brenner's editorial is good but is basically an alternate version of the first chapter in A Brief History of Neoliberalism.

Just got Vol 1 of Capital today. Gonna start the slow trek through it, accompanied by the Harvey lecture series.

What do you guys think about Chomsky's comments on Lenin in this video?

I think he buys into the notion that Lenin prefigured Stalin, which I think is wrong, if you actually look at the scholarship surrounding the early Soviet Union. That isn't to say some of the elements didn't exist, it is to say the forms in which they existed became something objectively different that corresponded with the bureaucratization that occurred in the period after the civil war. Lenin tried to fight against this before he was shot and had his functions limited significantly.

So you would disagree that Lenin was a "right wing deviation of the socialist movement"? I've been reading about Lenin and the Russian Revolution over the last few months, and admittedly I've only looked at texts that are sympathetic to him so far, but that video is the first time I've come across someone describing him in such terms.

I'd recommend checking out Lars Lih's work on Lenin. He goes to great lengths to place Lenin's works in context, showing how they were not altogether different from the ideas and practices which had given German socialists success to some degree.
