Can’t turn this off today. I wish it had come out earlier in the summer but yeah I’m in love. Fantastic energy.
I'll be the lone contrarian here and say I absolutely hate this. I could not be less interested in Anamanaguchi turning into Weezer.
Death to Anamanaguchi(chip tune)! Long Live Anamanaguchi(Weezer clone)!! also saying this is like weezer is like saying any pop rock band is like weezer. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it’s good based on what I’ve heard so far
I’m fine with it just because it does feel like a natural development of their sound but I do wish there were more of a balance because I feel like I have plenty of bands pulling off a similar sound and not many doing what Anamanaguchi was doing at their level But it’s whatever, the songs are really good and ima always root for them. This album is not really for me though, that’s okay
Edit: Idk if the embed isn't working because it was a live stream or if I'm sharing wrong, but they live streamed a playthrough of the album, some q&a and bonus songs. Haven't watched all of it but sounded good! <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Xz2VFYK7i2w?si=1HokZSu7TC6YUDEs" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I only said Weezer because the comparison had already been made multiple times in this thread. I really don't see how this development sounds natural at all. I'll grant it still very much sounds like Anamanaguchi doing a completely different style of music, but I don't see how that shift in style could've been reasonably anticipated.
Whatever their style was before this album does nothing for me but god this is one of the best albums I’ve heard this year easily. I hope they keep in this realm going forward.
I love their output before and really love this album too. I do hope we get a mix of both going forward.
Gave this a spin due to the positive reaction in here. Man. The highs on this are really high. The run of Sapphire>Valley of Silence>Fall Away is exquisite.
Listening now. It's fun. Although, the synths are way too loud in the mix. Will definitely listen again for sure.
After spending time with this record, the most accurate way I can describe it is ‘Anamanaguchi makes a Jeff Rosenstock record’
