It's rough, man. Here's actual dialogue:

"You know what Darth Vader looks like beneath that mask? He's a skeleton. Just like the rest of us."

So far there have been flashes of some beautiful shots, but I do not need to see another singalong with a bunch of white people to E40. There've been about 4 or 5 so far

"What're you fucking religious or something?"
No, God can go fuck himself. God's a ****"

    Guys, c'mon

You just sold me. I needed to pad my Worst of the Year list and did not want to beat up on Zoolander 2.

Shia LaBeouf just shot a cowboy's raw steak and forced him into a pool

I really enjoyed the tension in that scene, the unspoken power dynamics and surreal staging and camerawork, until Shia reappeared.

One of my favorite flicks that came out this year. Check this out!

Honestly don't know if those criticisms are fair, we aren't exactly looking to these characters as portrayals of American heroes. I took a lot of the dialogue to be intentionally shallow, there was obvious depth added to their lives and I wouldn't say they were just caricatures but I wasn't expecting the travelling magazine subscription scammers drinking a 40s in a white van to be particularly insightful

Almost shut it off in the first half hour and ended up really loving it but I am far from a harsh critic so take that with a grain of salt

The casual dialogue amongst the kids was fine. Again, KIDS is one of my favorite films. When the film reaches for depth, usually through an interaction between Star and another character, it's so fucking on the nose and heavyhanded. Cut to a sprinkler the first time they make out? The Darth Vader dialogue? It's weak.

I still have about 45 mins left. I stopped when guitar guy was about to sing

My favorite thing in this when Arnold fucks with the idea of cutting to a shot of nature by cutting to a shot of a sticker of nature.

I played with the idea of it being subversive but don't buy it

This is pretty bad. Andrea Arnold joins a long list of foreign filmmakers that draw awful caricatures of Middle America.

Shia is like, really bad in this and IDK if they're improvising the scenes between him and Star but no one talks this way. I haven't actively disliked a movie this much in a long time

This kids exist. I went to school with kids like these. It bothers me that it is being written off like this by so many people.

lol I grew up in, live in and teach in a predominantly lower-middle class area, I'm aware. I'm not writing off any of the "kids", it's quite obvious that they were found somewhere and are portraying themselves, basically. I take issue with the so, so painfully obvious forced dialogue that gets inserted awkwardly in between genuine, real feeling conversation.
