It's A Secret To Everyone Prestigious

while i don't dislike this record, this wouldn't be in my top 15 of 2016. ultimately, as of right now, this is a fairly unmemorable listen

Same, i go back to "I Need a Drink" quite often, but other than that i have mostly forgotten this record.

  5. It definitely doesn't touch the first record, as far as being memorable and a classic. I enjoy it though. I'm excited to hear songs from it when I see them next month.

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

I'm prepared to get harangued for this, but I think I like this more than the first record. It's probably because there are certain tracks on here ("My Instincts Are The Enemy", "I Need a Drink...") that I can relate to so much with the way that my life has been going over the last few years. While it's missing the drawn out instrumental passages that I loved from the first LP, the lyrics hit it home for me.

I think a lot of the charm of the first record is that they weren't a band anymore by the time anyone really discovered it.

Agreed. A lot of my friends also had tempered expectations for this record. They were excited for it, but were also thinking there's no way they can top the first record 17 years after the fact. But that's just my circle.

no one expected it to top the first record

I didn't expect to love it as much as I did either

perfect spot to hit, and part of it is due to the fact they didn't attempt to do an LP1 ver. 2.0

People seemed let down by how similar this album sounded to Owen, whereas for me that was a real draw. Mike Kinsella has grown to be one of my favorite artists period, and Owen is the reason why.

"Give Me The Gun" is my favorite off this record.

Exactly the same for me. I liked American Football for a couple of years before getting into Owen, but it's the music he's made as Owen that's stuck with me much more than American Football (even though I do like both of course).

Im super happy the new album exists and works well with the old one. Sounds different but instrumentally it's in the same realm for sure.. it isn't their fault a ton of bands copied them after their first record they are allowed to write in that style. I also think harmonically there are a lot of differences anyway

In all fairness they will probably never top that song. I've got a metal drummer buddy who doesn't know another tune at all by American Football and yet he's obsessed with Never Meant, it just seems to click with everyone on a musical level.

It's still a pretty crazy song, so yeah I get that. It's like my second favorite song by them.

amazing show - they are soooo good live

the addition of a xylophone is a genius idea and they just sound sooooo clean and balanced

I was a little late to the show :(

but I got a pic with Mike at the end : )

Just wondering, how was the crowd during LP2 songs? Responsive? I've seen people's reactions outside here being fairly one side or the other
