That Shuta Yasukochi one is right up my alley...so weighty and enveloping...beautiful piece of escapism.
Went a little crazy buying ambient vinyl on Bandcamp and discogs for no reason at all besides boredom. Picked up Grouper’s AIA Alien Observer, arrange’s Plantation, zakè & city of dawn’s Tape Hymns, Laraaji’s Flow Goes the State, Alaskan Tapes’ Who Tends a Garden, and Yagya’s Rigning
This new Kali Malone album is sublime. One of the greatest ambient listening experiences I’ve had in several years, and I mean that.
I enjoyed but thought it was a little too noisy at times, not gonna lie. Might’ve just been my speakers tho. excited to check that loscil and lawrence english collab
There were some moments where I had to turn it down, which isn’t the best feeling, but overall I was entranced. Listened to the whole thing in a single sitting which I didn’t know I was still even capable of doing, haha.
I had that with the most recent Adam Pacione album that’s like 4 hours long. Love that feeling, like you’re immersed in the ambience.
New Austin Cash album another recent one worth checking out. Recorded b/w the 70s and 80s and previously unreleased until now. Sort of a bucolic, gentle psychedelic sound.
Also, damn, how did we collectively forget to post new Hammock when it dropped? this one takes it back to their more guitar-driven/shoegazey style of the early albums. definitely the return to form I was hoping for after their last few.
speaking of bucolic… David Moore (Bing & Ruth) announced an album with Steve Gunn. First track is a beautiful little piano/guitar sketch been listening to this a lot this week. fuzzy ever so slightly rhythmic stuff that occasionally brings to mind fennesz and Tim Hecker https://laaps-records.com/album/sinter
This Hammock album is really nice! I don’t get as excited about their music as I once did, but I am thoroughly enjoying this so far. Gods Becoming Memories is gorgeous. edit: absorbed in light is very cool edit 2: yeah this is great and I am loving the bass on some of these tracks. denial of endings is sick.
The new Hollie Kenniff album is a stunner. That family is too talented. also new Blush to the Snow, nice dense drone vibes.
Not sure where else to post this but the Lucrecia Dalt album from last year might be one of the better things I have ever heard lol
new Imaginary Softwoods album is worthwhile. real dreamy stuff. this is the other dude from Emeralds that's not Mark McGuire.
couple great ones out this week new Takashi Kokubo is stunning. has a new agey/fourth world feel to it. drifty and meditative. new Ironomi. incredible piano based ambient, riyl Eluvium, Goldmund new Kassel Jaeger. haven't listened yet but his stuff is usually glitchy, droney goodness.
This album is really the best of 2023 so far in my eyes. It also comes from an unlikely source. PM me if you can't find digitals. Rod Modell & Taka Noda - Glow World
