This new Olafur Arnalds album is absolutely gorgeous.

 

This is still the best ambient record of 2019

I missed this one, thanks so much, this is perfect rainy day music (which it currently is right now). Blessed.

 

I'm looking for music that's somewhere between the instrumental passages of The Moon & Antarctica and Brian Eno's Apollo... spacey quasi-ambient basically, vocals optional. does anyone have suggestions?

e: another, more distant point of reference would be Glassworks

 

Thats a tough one- you might want to dip into some post rock albums- but heres what I came up with. Just off the top of my head...

Balmorhea maybe? Constellations, Stranger, All is Wild All is Silent are all excellent albums even if they don't quite scratch that particular itch

Per Adam Wiltzie's Instagram post, this compilation features "an abandoned STARS OF THE LID piece from 2014, revisited and finished" for this compilation. Excited to hear that.

Yet another new KMRU release.

Companion EP for Davachi's Cantus, Descant, originally released as an accompanying cassette.

This was released a while ago, but I just got around to listening to it last week and now it's one of my favorite drone albums of the year. It made Anti-Gravity Bunny's annual Top 25 Drone Records list, which is invariably a great guide to a bunch of stuff I missed but also includes a lot of my favorites from this year: Emily A. Sprague, Davachi, Clarice Jensen, KMRU, John Kolodij, and Klara Lewis. Posting it here in case anyone else is looking for some drone.

 

So much good stuff. This came out last week and is also incredible.
