can someone make a list of 5-10 of the best albums to come out in the last couple years, ive literally only listened to the two tim hecker albums lol
I think the below all fall under the loose umbrella of “ambient” music. Some of my favorites off the top of my head: Kara-Lis Coverdale - Grafts (You have to hear this if you’re a Tim Hecker fan.) Bibio - Phantom Brickworks Chuck Johnson - Balsams Gas - Narkopop (and Rausch) Bing & Ruth - No Home of the Mind Sarah Davachi - Vergers Clarice Jensen - For This From That Will Be Filled Fennesz - Agora Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - Tracing Back The Radiance From what I’ve heard, The Caretaker’s latest project is one of the best releases of the decade, but I have only listened to the first few “stages” so far. In considering what will make my AOTD list I’ve been working on lately, I have been wondering what a top 10 ambient list would like. I feel like I discover someone new every time I open this thread, so I’m sure there are some notable releases I’ve missed over the past 10 years, especially since I didn’t really get into ambient music until a few years ago.
That's a good list. I still plan on making mine tomorrow. In the meantime, it's a great ambient release day. My first listen is this, now before bed.
good list but no Ian William Craig or Sean McCann??? :P I would also add Migrations In Rust, Le Berger and Sparkling Wide Pressure not to mention all modern classical that falls in the ambient spectrum like that 8 hr Max Richter album & AWVFTS
Here's my list of the best from the last few years, not ranked. It's long- I couldn't help myself. I tried not to overlap with @Gjpeace and @Horrorca's choices. Probably missing a bunch, but oh well. I'm always looking for recommendations btw. GAS - Rausch (though his discography is flawless) Joseph Shabason - Aytche Yagya - Stars and Dust Roedelius and Tim Story - Lunz 3 Huerco S. - For Those Of Who Have Never (And Also Those Who Have) Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith - EARS (The Kid is also incredible- can't call it ambient tho) Mary Lattimore - Hundreds of Days Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - On the Echoing Green Geotic - Traversa Kyle Bobby Dunn - From Here to Eternity Bvdub - Drowning in Daylight Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement - Ambient Black Magic 2814 - 新しい日の誕生 Klara Lewis and Simon Fisher Turner - Care Jon Hassell - Listening to Pictures (this one is so damn good) Rafael Anton Irisarri - The Shameless Years Kelly Moran - Ultraviolet Orquesta de las Nubes - The Order of Change Meitei - Kwaidan Suplington - Repeating Flowers The Caretaker - Everywhere at the end of time M. Geddes Gengras - Light Pipe DJ Healer - Nothing 2 Loose
Ian William Craig is a big one, yeah. I made that list right before falling asleep, so I knew I would miss somebody. A Turn of Breath is an all-time favorite of mine; I can't believe I forgot about him. I've never been able to get into Sean McCann, but I'll try again sometime this week.
Sad my list got no attention Anyway, I saw this wasn't posted and this came out last Friday. It's excellent, RIYL Hammock, A Winged Victory for the Sullen, Olafur Arnalds, and the like.
I definitely paid attention to it! I just don’t post often enough. I know a little over half of the albums you listed, but I’ve added the rest to listen to throughout the next week. (I usually start my mornings with an ambient album or two.) Listened to Yagya this morning. It was great. Gave me Gas vibes at times, which is really all I need to say.
riyl: lotic, dedekind cut, kareem lofty riyl: clarinet-based ambient, jazz-ambient riyl: marsen jules, celer, pausal
On first listen, the closing track on that Marcus Fischer album, “On April 29th,” is one of my favorite ambient tracks released this year.
Don't miss this incredibly intricate piece of work. Literally top 5 of the year for me. Incredible shit.
