the new Jonsi (frontman of Sigur Rós) album very much belongs here. halfway through it now and it is transcendently beautiful, my god. very much reminiscent of Riceboy Sleeps
Found this album while browsing RYM tops: Alexander Gregory Kent tagged as drone/ambient/post-rock Turns out that it's the début album of the leader of Sprain (rip)
This is great. Highly rec’d to those who enjoy bvdub, that Ulla & Ultrafrog album from earlier this year, a touch of Grouper. Some songs have vocals but they’re vaporous and dreamy.
oh dang, I'd remembered I hadn't checked it out yet today and saw it got pulled, guess that makes sense
this one is inching up to one of the year's best. it's entirely one of a kind and immerses you in its own world. if you missed it, highly recommend.
Yeah this is so much my shit (as a person who listens to Final Fantasy soundtracks more often than is probably normal). Feels like the bridge between SNES and PS1-era RPG soundtracks with some extra baroque influcence.
for sure, and there's a touch of a James Ferraro-esque weirdness to it as well. very unique and cool album. maybe d'Eon's best since LP (a masterpiece - but not ambient)
My buddy just put out an excellent, bass-centric ambient EP on Friday that I think the thread will enjoy (not on Bandcamp afaik):
some recent drops worth your time: a 1987 first-time-ever streaming release/reissue, a Japanese environmental-ambient album. riyl Hiroshi Yoshimura, Midori Takada... new Infinite Body album, their first in 14 years. gorgeous, minimal, lots of field recordings and piano.
great pair of collab albums released today, with Von Spar, Eiko Ishibashi, Joe Talia, Tatsuhisa Yamamoto. also dropped it in the Jazz thread. new mu tate album couple others: Klara Lewis, Kyle Bobby Dunn (this new one is hopefully supposed to go on streaming), Gi Gi, Jill Fraser...
4rk list lead me down a rabbit hole to this album. Track 4 in particular is blowing me away, which is insane considering what that cover looks like
That album is awesome. Pretty much everything from Elysia and Joshua Crampton is worth checking out although I wouldn’t classify their music as ambient (though they do drift into that zone every now and then).
