RIP Ryuichi Sakamoto. Sad loss for this and many other genres. Listened to this beautiful work last night and I'll be digging more into his discography the next few days. This one is for fans of Eluvium, Ironomi, and the Joe Hisaishi scores for Studio Ghibli films.
The first eight tracks of the new Eluvium record are on Bandcamp. Not sure how long they’ve been there but I just noticed!
This one is so good. I love how varied it is but still retains a blissful identity. Need to check out their first album.
Somehow didn't know this thread was a thing until now, everyone should check out Lia Kohl's album from earlier this year, it's top tier
Yeah this is excellent so far edit: yup, this is exactly my kind of ambient. Can’t wait to listen to this one more.
This thing's fizzing with life Also, saw Alva Noto in London on Wednesday with the s t a r g a z e orchestra, doing cuts from his Xerrox series. Lovely night, ending on a fitting, beautiful Ryuichi Sakamoto cover (The Sheltering Sky).
I’ve been bumping this one a lot lately. Matthew is also like, one of the nicest people on the planet (and has a new record out soon on RVNG):
remastered version of Mark McGuire's overlooked solo classic dropped today. just perfection. also new Matt LaJoie and Marcel Sletten. both worth checking out.
New Eluvium will be near the top of my end year list. Also, he posted a playlist on Spotify that has become my go-to for a reading soundtrack. It contains a number of Eluvium tracks as well as others tracks that have inspired him.
Just diving deeper into the genre, only really familiar with some Brian Eno and Tim Hecker. What albums would y'all consider essential listening? Especially for stress relief
man where to even begin. this is my fav genre. some "chiller" essentials below, but also sharing a sprawling playlist I've made for this genre in case you want to just throw it on shuffle and see what you like. I add to it all the time which is why it's so damn long haha. some of it's not strictly ambient but it's about 90% within the genre. Stars of the Lid - discography (esp Tired Sounds, and Their Refinement) Heavenly Music Corporation - In a Garden of Eden Mary Lattimore - Silver Ladders Hiroshi Yoshimura - Green Jonsi & Alex - Riceboy Sleeps Hammock - Raising Your Voice, and Maybe They Will Sing GAS - Pop Laraaji & Eno - Ambient 3: Day of Radiance Grouper - Dragging a Dead Deer Helios - Eingya (love all his stuff tho) TOO many to list. I also rec just skimming through the thread and sampling diff things. even within the last few pages. there's a lot obviously, but I think we all have different tastes here and that should give a good range.
Yeah, maybe I should clarify, I will dif be skimming the thread for recs haha just figured I'd ask for favorites, especially since I'm looking for something more specific (good for stress, chill, etc.). Appreciate the recs, excited to dive in!
i'm sure you're familiar with his other project the caretaker but if you're not i highly suggest checking it out. some of the best music and concept for a project i've ever heard.
Nice, I was going to say I am familiar with Everywhere at the End of Time (have not listened to it in full) but will def check this out!
