Amazon Prime Video Will Start Showing Ads on January 29th

    Chris Welch, writing for The Verge:

    Earlier this year, Amazon announced plans to start incorporating ads into movies and TV shows streamed from its Prime Video service, and now the company has revealed a specific date when you’ll start seeing them: it’s January 29th. “This will allow us to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time,” the company said in an email to customers about the pending shift to “limited advertisements.”

    It's crazy how many streaming content providers there are these days. Someone should come up with a service that combines all of these various streaming platforms into one service with a set monthly price, so you can watch shows on any network without having to subscribe to each separately. I'm just thinking out loud but maybe we could call it Cable Television or something.

    One day all streaming services will be adless & free, produce content for your own personal tastes with no wait between seasons, and there will never be another show cancelled that only you and a handful of other people watch. Those involved in producing the content will be more than adequately compensated (despite no income from subscribers or advertisers), and will create the shows that sing to their passions (and don't forget yours). This streaming utopia will soon be upon us!
