I came in here to post some replies to this thread, only to find out that Amazon had already posted on my behalf.

Came in here hoping somebody was ripping this.

I definitely see the wish for an alternative solution to packages being left outside (hate it myself), but a surprise visitor into my home to do so is a no go for me.

Uber and AIRBNB just both seem like things where if a serial killer wanted to lure their victims somehow that's what they'd use

Hahaha it's so funny reading this cause I got my first airbnb last week when I went to see Brand New. It was more affordable than any hotel nearby and it was a nice house! I honestly kind of loved it.

The only weird thing was that we got there very late so I felt like I was being overly quiet/sneaking back home like I was in high school. They labeled all the drawers and closets with "DO NOT OPEN" laminates too, which was just awkward cause it made me want to look, bad.

Other than that, fresh bathroom stuff like a hotel and some food in the fridge. Cable, a living room and a creek out back with a bridge. 10/10 would go again.

the concept doesn't bother me as much as it seems to others. I'm sure they have more ideas behind this than simply getting packages in your house though. would like to know the real why of it.

Let's get these people moving faster!

Well ultimately they know the next step is drone/robot deliveries. So the question then becomes what new revenue streams can they create from them accessing your home.

strangers in the home is also a no go for me. my wife thinks this is a great idea, i think she is insane. i would be more willing to have a grounded drop off box with a key located on my porch that would be large enough to hold most packages....though i know some are massive. idk.

agreed. i feel pretty safe taking one. but i hated when my wife would take one by herself late at night.

It was super useful when I was in L.A./Malibu last fall, but I don't travel a lot and I've always lived somewhere where it made more sense to drive than take any type of public/third party transportation. The concept is still a bit foreign to me, I guess.

I write blogs for a background check company and one of the big issues recently has been background screenings for Uber/Lyft drivers. Read too many articles about Uber drivers being accused of sexual assault.

Seems like this would mostly be for people buying large/expensive items, like TVs or something.

Even still, I don't like the idea of this, but I know a few rich assholes that would probably do it.

I just think that people's general perception of privacy is changing rapidly and that will continue. As homes become more secure,e.g. things like video surveillance become more mainstream, the thought of a delivery person entering your home won't be troubling to most people.

There are a variety of tech startups in this space already bc there are early adopters. I fit in with what a few have said already - I can't have packages delivered unless I'm home, which is super inconvenient and sometimes not possible. With the right service agreement, I would gladly use this type of service from Amazon – and I think the percentage of people who agree will continue to grow. Obviously Amazon thinks so too, and as much as I hate (to love) them, they're usually not wrong.

Businesses of all kinds, like restaurants and retail stores for example, receive unsupervised shipments & deliveries from respectable vendors overnight. Distributors literally have keys to their buildings to make these deliveries. Yes, it's big and scary when you take the example and apply it to your own personal home.

Whoever is delivering your Amazon package has about 5 1/2 seconds to make the delivery because they've got 499 other packages after yours to deliver. They don't have time to go snooping around your shit.

Ya I agree with this. From what I’ve reead after seeing this, it looks like we might be seeing a big push for smart home security and smart home tech in general. With both Alphabet and Amazon on it, it’s kind of inevitable. The pushback is expected but there will always be hesitation with new tech concepts. Funny enough, my brother and I have been working on an idea that involves smart locks since April, so this actually works well for us.

A valid point, but the ratio of good workers to the handful that might abuse it or be complete creeps just isn't worth it to me. What if the worker is somebody you know? What if someone is staying at your house and unknowingly get surprised by a random worker walking in the front door? So many awkward scenarios haha.

Anyone who abuses it would lose their job and could be taken to court on top of that. I just can’t imagine someone dumb enough to try and abuse it

I just get stuff delivered to local pick-up stores here. There's a company called Doddle here in the UK where you can just give their address, with a unique number, and you can pick up whenever.

Definitely feels like there are so many alternatives available now in terms of collect at various locations, this just feels like overkill.
