I’ve just accepted the fact that, even after over 100 listens, I’m still going to hold back tears every time I hear Belinda Says.
Blue Rev has become my favorite album of theirs. I don’t know how they surpassed Antisocialites but they freaking did it!
Blue Rev is my favorite record of theirs as well, but “Archie, Marry Me” might still be my favorite song.
I go back and forth between the debut and Blue Rev. Blue Rev is almost definitely better I think, but the debut was one of those perfect records I absolutely obsessed over until I got sick of my favorite songs and then fell in love with the other songs as favorites in a way that barely ever happens to me anymore. Antisocialites is a distant third for me, but In Undertow is my favorite Alvvays song and I don’t blame anyone for throwing Dreams or Not My Baby up there too.
Antisocialites and Blue Rev are neck and neck for me. I think only more time will tell which will come out on top because right now it’s whichever I’m one I’m listening to. Debut is my least favorite it’s still elite. At this point in time this might be my favorite band.
sometimes almost in a direct recreate this but better way - see Pomeranian Spinster vs like the entire middle of Antisocialites
1. “Archie, Marry Me” 2. “Belinda Says” 3. “Easy on Your Own?” 4. “Tom Verlaine” 5. “In Undertow” 6. “Pharmacist” 7. “Dreams Tonight” 8. “After the Earthquake” 9. “Forget About Life” 10. “Ones Who Love You” my Alvvays opinions are pretty basic. They’re a great singles band that also put out great records. “Forget About Life” is their most underrated song imo. rare band where someone could put 7-8 different songs on their top 10 and I’d go “yea that’s fair”, and the small discography makes that even more impressive. They haven’t missed.
After the Earthquake Belinda Says In Undertow Archie, Marry Me Easy On Your Own? Adult Diversion Saved By A Waif Lottery Noises Many Mirrors Dreams Tonite Think I’m comfortable with that as a top 10. Earthquake is definitely #1
1. In Undertow 2. Belinda Says 3. Ones Who Love You 4. Archie, Marry Me 5. Pharmacist 6. Saved by a Waif 7. Adult Diversion 8. Tom Verlaine 9. Atop a Cake 10. Not My Baby
This was hard for me and probably subject to change but I feel confident that these are my top 10 regardless of order: 1. Dreams Tonite 2. After the Earthquake 3. Easy on Your Own? 4. Atop a Cake 5. Saved By a Waif 6. Archie, Marry Me 7. Belinda Says 8. Not My Baby 9. Tom Verlaine 10. Pecking Order
Fuck yeah, Pecking Order!!! This is the type of band that makes writing ridiculously catchy melodies like that sound easy, until you try it yourself and realize it's so incredibly difficult.
I remember when I first saw them live and realizing they were strumming their guitars with the whammy bar - I was stunned since it seemed so difficult to do that well lol
Sold my tickets to the Alex G co-headliner in Boston because they (quietly) announced a solo headlining show at Mass MOCA. Standing GA > assigned seats
