I really liked the direction they were heading with their most recent album. I want to hear more of that.
This is very safe. It's catchy and I like the verses, but I really don't like the way Alex sings certain lines in the chorus though...
I just still wish I had some context. I think both these songs are fun and I like them a good amount. If it's a little summer EP, then I'm all about it, because they're just fun ATL songs, but if they're leading up to a full album, then this isn't really the direction I wanted them to head.
I don't think you can draw any assumptions about the direction of the band from these one-off singles.
It doesn’t feel as much as a progression as it does like listening to an ATL record from an alternate universe if they had taken a different path. Really not feeling these two songs, but also wasn’t totally sold on the LYR direction, even though that was wayyyy better than this.
To be fair The Reckless and the Brave was released in a similar way and that became part of Don't Panic.
Totally different scenario though. When Reckless and the Brave came out they were technically unsigned.
Oh I did forget about that actually that's a good point I guess that was kind of just a "we don't know what's going on so we're gonna wing it" thing.
They also needed a strong pivot after the Dirty Work disaster. A pop punk jam and another Warped tour run to drum up hype for another record. Last Young Renegade didn't do that great in sales but the reception went a lot better than Dirty Work.
Definitely gets a lot of shit for being horrible, but outside of a couple really bad clunkers its a pretty good ATL record. Guts, Do You Want Me Dead, Heroes, Forget About It (outside of that terrible spoken word part), Time Bomb, Just The Way I'm Not, A Daydream Away, and Under A Paper Moon all deserve to be in All Time Low canon.
Wow. This new song is terrible. I never thought they were the best songwriters, but this is just on another level of wtf for them.
