I have a very similar feeling with that album, and honestly Future Hearts too. I really enjoyed them both when they came out, but as time went on, my interest just faded pretty quickly and I'd only listen to them when I had an ATL show coming up. But then when I actually look at the songs (especially Don't Panic), I think yep that's a great song, that's a great song, etc. so it's really weird.

  2. Damn, I really like this album.

Would you consider it their best? This post got me hyped!

  6. I'm like ... 6 listens in ... and maybe? I recently went back and listened to all their albums and really loved Don't Panic, but think this may end up passing it. Also, I'm just really, really in a big pop phase right now, so it's hitting that itch perfectly. Going from Paramore to this was such a perfect transition and I just keep playing them back-to-back.

    Alex sounds so good.

We so far, broadly speaking, know two pop songs and two pop punk songs from this album. Is that the ratio we can expect from the whole album?

  8. It's a very pop to I guess pop-rock album. I wouldn't call anything on it "pop-punk." I'd say it's a pop album like the new Paramore album is a pop album.

Yeah I think I get what you mean. I'd still call the second single Pop Punk, maybe even the one they just put out, but maybe that's just me.

Liked every song I heard so far, but Nice2KnoU is easily my favorite.

The "Oh, oh, oh, oh"s in the background remind me of the "Doo, doo, doo"s (?) from This Ain't A Scene by FOB, and that's not a bad thing.

This gets me more hyped! Don't Panic is probably the best album they've put out since SRIR. I find myself not going back to Nothing Personal or Dirty Work often at all and I didn't really like Future Hearts (Cinderblock Garden is a banger though). I still dig their Ep PUOSU but that and SRIR come off very teeny to me now so I struggle to connect with them like I used to.

Me and you are at similar stages in music I've also gone more poppier in taste. Do you have any recomendations for someone who is too loving the new ATL and Paramore stuff?

I definitely get this. Color scheme on an album cover a lot of times gives me some vibe in the album.

I dunno, I still think Dirty Work feels less the sum of its parts. Most of the songs are pretty good (though Time Bomb may be their worst song ever) but the album as a whole isn't one I reach for often. Even while liking the songs I still find it kinda uninspired feeling, if that makes any sense. Definitely my least favorite excluding TPS, which just isn't so much my thing.

Yea I know I'm in the minority. It was my go to album that summer. I think it just released at the ideal time of year for me. I think it has such a clean, crisp sound, and I just can't discredit an album that has Do You Want Me (Dead?), Forget About It, Guts, Under a Paper Moon, and Heroes. The only song I don't enjoy is That Girl, which is actually probably what I'd call their worst song ever. Time Bomb is ok, but definitely nothing that excites me, and why it's the one song from that album they regularly play, I will never understand. I actually just talked myself in to calling it my 2nd favorite All Time Low album (next to SWIR).

I actually forgot to mention that I don't think the production on that album really suits them. I can't put my finger on what it is, but it just seems to lack personality. I'll agree that Do You Want Me (Dead?), Guts, and Heroes are great songs though. I've always been partial to Just the Way I'm Not, Return the Favor, and A Daydream Away too. Still, though... I wish I could articulate why I find it a weaker album.

All great songs too... haha yea I do know what you mean I mean it's clear that they were going for a very polished album with a shot at rock radio. I think pretty much every song was produced by someone different, so it's kind of a jarring listen. (Going back to my comments on album cover color, I literally think what glues it together for me is the bright blue of the album cover.)
