giving these guys some love after a while. they're definitely one of the bands that shaped my youth - some of my fondest memories include singing "Remembering Sunday", "Dear Maria", "Therapy" and "Weightless" with my two best friends from high school five or six years ago.

both are still my two best friends, but i moved for college and we only meet up when i go back home. we still sing those songs together, but even if we now share lots of new interests, they haven't really gotten into any other ATL songs since then.

so, this band has turned into kind of a small, nostalgic part of our friendship now, albeit still a very important one. for some reason, i hear "Afterglow" and immediately feel like it's a chapter coming to a close - the three of us have grown up, moved out, taken different paths. it makes me sad, but it also makes me look back into my otherwise crappy adolescence and think - hey, we had some fun.

so now i'm very sentimental and really wanna meet the guys and show them my improved falsetto for the "Therapy" chorus. it's been too long.

I did a 180 on this album after listening to it in the car a few times. I love it now. I still think the little EDM noises sprinkled into some songs, especially in Life Of The Party (if that's the name), are terrible and should not be there. But yeah, really good album regardless.

 

Still listen to it periodically. Think it remains as ATL's strongest and most cohesive effort to date.

 

Listened for the first time in a while, and yep it's still great. I'd easily make the argument that this is their most consistent release. Really no missteps on here for me. I'll stand by my opinion that the last three songs are the best on the album, and three of the best songs of the bands career.

 

I still think Nothing Personal is their best record - the hooks and melodies on there are just outrageous.

Only track on this I don't care for is "Life Of the Party". Other than that, stellar record.

 

Like I said, I love the album now, but it's no Don't Panic. In fact, to me the album still sounds like what I imagine a 2017 Alex solo album would sound like.

 

I actually really don't get the dislike for Life of the Party. It's pretty easily one of my favorites on here.

It's a fine song but those little generic EDM noises (don't know how else to describe them) are so played out imo, I have no idea why anyone would still use them on anything but a cash grab EDM song

 

I feel like that was sort of the point. The lyrics talk about how the lifestyle they're living is almost disingenuous, a persona put on to please those that expect the "party all night" attitude. Those "EDM noises" are just a facet of that. At least in my interpretation.

I just heard Good Times on the radio and I think it's the first time I hear ATL on the radio around here. That's nice!

 

I think I have two main issues with this album, one is that the guitar is SO low down in the mix that is may as well be absent, and I think the lyrics are generally pretty awful. I've warmed to two or three songs but that's honestly it at this point.

 

This record just has not held up for me at all. Very little replay value

 

I enjoy it when I play it but I just straight up never play it

 

I play it all the time, way more now than the month after it came out

 

Been spinning this a lot more lately. I think it's their best work by far. They are much better without gainy lame guitars.

i loooooved don't panic (almost all of it except the so long songs/irony/to live and let go are my favorite ATL songs ever) but future hearts was a bit of a disappointment.

 

also i'm seeing two SWIR shows! so excited

 

My most listened to artist on Spotify in 2017. I played this so much over the summer!

 

This was a top 3 release this year. Such a solid album, and Good Times was my anthem over the summer.

 

Has any support been announced for the SWIR shows?
Also, I really love this album. It's super solid front to back and one of my most played this year.
