The thing is, before FH came out I thought it was gonna be a totally meh album for me. I thought Something's Gotta Give and Runaways were fine but unremarkable, and Kids in the Dark and Tidal Waves were just not good. It was actually a long post by @Jason Tate a week or two before the album came out that completely changed the way I thought about those songs and got me ready for the album. I still distinctly remember clicking play when I had just left the house, and Satellite came on, and I was like... holy shit, I'm going to love this.

Still hard to believe that I ever didn't like Tidal Waves though, at this point I think it's one of their best songs ever.

Remember that song, Actors? I liked that one.

Is the 25-28k SPS including ALL sales, or just the steaming equivalents themselves? Because if it's all that's lower than I thought, but if that's additional, then they still did like 50k which is great for them (but I'm sure it's all sales). Touring is what matters anyway and they are nowhere near struggling to sell tickets. They've got to be the biggest band from that era of music that's still going (not counting the big crossovers. Paramore, FOB, Panic!, and blink if your counting them in this group).

25-28k includes everything, 22-25k includes just album sales

What album were they touring on when they toured with FOB?

i like this album for its catchiness, experimentation with current trends, and Alex's performance, but it ends before it makes its statement clear and the lyrics are very shallow though relatable. it's always been the case with this band, but i think Don't Panic had better writing as a whole so it's kind frustrating to see them not grow from that.

all in all, i doubt this album will score a hit single or expand their fanbase in any way. curious to see which direction they head for next.

I actually listened to Don't Panic recently and don't think it holds up super great. Probably my second least favorite in the current run of SWIR to now.

At this point I don't think they'll ever really expand their fan base again unless for some reason they had a huge cross over hit but I mean they're doing fine

That's the last album of theirs that I got into. I feel like they got a lot bigger since then though.

I'm guessing it's cause they toured with 5SOS, and they're doing shows with LP. They've also toured with Yellowcard here. Plus, I believe they started getting popular here before they released 35XXXV here, I think.

LYR is my favorite ATL album. I think it's really good.

Ended up at #9 with 33k (30k traditional album sales). Glad they hit 30k. For some reason that seems a lot more reasonable than the 25-28k estimates.

I tried to get into this but I just can't. Feels very bland and calculated.

#9 is still probably their lowest since SWIR, no?

I will concede that in revisiting their whole discography - I forgot how catchy "That Girl" is...

i see why people would think it's catchy, but it's a vapid catchiness imo. that's one of their worst songs ever. that bonus track "Bad Enough For You" was even catchier but just as bad

decent songs on that album: Do You Want Me (Dead), Guts, Under a Paper Moon. not a fan of "Heroes" like a lot of people seem to be but it's an okay one

So what's the general consensus on this? Can't tell if I'm missing something with it.

I've pretty much done a 180 on this, haha. Other than "Life of the Party," I'm totally into it now. Also, there's a chance that "Last Young Renegade" will be THE summer jam for me this year.

Definitely seems somewhat polarizing. I for one love the overall sound they went for and think this is their best album yet. Huge summer evening vibes.

Life of the Party has grown on me a lot, it used to be one of my least favorite tracks. Now I think I really dig everything except Nightmares and Nice2KnoU is just okay, but the album still feels uneven when listening front to back.

Nice2KnoU is one of my favorites, but it seems like most people disagree. The song's a jam. Nightmares & Life of the Party are my least favorites here, but I still like them both a good amount. It took me a few listens for Good Times to click, but now I can't get the song out of my head.

They significantly grew their fan base with their last two albums only to then change their sound, that can lead to a decline in sales I guess

I can't get over how great the 3 song stretch at the end of the album is. Dark Side Of Your Room -> Ground Control -> Afterglow ends this album on such a high note that it honestly just makes me want to immediately start the album again.
