correct. none of those albums have been released in the US until this one, except a US rerelease

  3. And it has been massively successful. Taking your "look at two data points it's a trend they can't promote albums" argument into the gutter.

I don't really understand how One Ok Rock can be so big over here, but that's kind of a side point.

  5. Most times when bands get older, they lose fans and sell fewer albums. When the entire industry trends that way as well? It's pretty predictable what happens. It's why the rare cases are ... rare.

  6. And putting Paramore into an equation to declare a "trend" about a label, when they specifically asked the label to do something, is ... again ... asinine.

I'm really enjoying the record and sound. It's a nice transition in sound and not so jarring like the new Linkin Park.

There comes a point in every bands career where you start to hear people at shows say "Huh they're still making new music?"

all time low was the biggest they've been last album cycle though, and this isn't going by sales. using my sister as reference here

Casey's sister and only Casey's sister is the sole way to judge a groups popularity

  11. They were bigger around the era when they toured with FOB. Sales and tour wise IIRC.

Last album was propped up by 5SOS. Which was pretty cool, but a blip.

The bonus track "Vampire Shift" gives me Fall Out Boy circa Folie à Deux vibes

ive never really liked this band all that much, @FTank and i actually were talking about this last night, they write good catchy songs but never anything i really gravitate to or reach for. i dont think they write "bad" lyrics per se but ive never really listened to them for the lyrics and im usually drawn more towards lyrically driven artists. but who knows, i remember like FH even if i havent gone back to it in a while so maybe this will convert me

yeah tbh I don't really LOVE them (especially not as much in comparison to a lot of ppl here). Definitely appreciate what they do and have a lot of nostalgia for their earlier records kinda helping me get more into the scene, but none of their stuff is in regular rotation for me. They have some songs I think are really great though. And all that being said, I think this album, while maybe not necessarily their best work (it might be for me with more time), feels like the one I could see myself really revisiting

I've often reflected on why I love this band so much, because it's definitely true that they're not as lyrically driven as some of the pop rock whatever bands that tend to get held up around here. But they're also one of the bands I've "grown up with" the most, starting when I was 14 and discovered Nothing Personal, and each of their albums has connected with a distinct, memorable part of my life. In a way, I think the best comparison is how many people grew up with Blink-182, a band I think is fine but has always been pretty massively overrated, and ATL really is that band for me. Similarly to how I kinda chuckle that Blink diehards exist, I'm sure many of those older people for whom Blink was a huge part of their formative years look down on this band and think they're bad or silly or whatever, but I think the point in one's life at which they heard a band makes all the difference.

Personal connection aside and speaking as "objectively" as possible, I think ATL writes some of the catchiest songs I've heard in the pop rock genre, and their lyrics are just good/clever enough to complement the music nicely. And despite being simple, a lot of their lyrics do mean a good deal to me.

As for this album, it's still sinking in. I think Future Hearts may always be my favorite, though; I still remember my first listen walking around town at midnight like it was yesterday, and it hit me just right at not only its time of release, with the weather starting to warm up for good, but also so much of that album connected very well with me at that point in my life.

I wasn't actually that keen of Future Hearts when it came out either (minus Something's Gotta Give which I immediately fell in love with) but it really clicked for me on a really long car journey to the airplane and I kinda just got lost in the album. I feel like I enjoy the new album more when the sun's going down and I'm getting ready to go out for a few drinks
