  1. I could tell that was the Pony before I read your comment lol. Met so many bands loading out along that wall in high school

Alex's vocal work on Nightmares is a clear stand out moment on the album to me

I don't get it with that song. It's fine, but I wish I could hear what makes it a standout track for people.

I'm not sure, but the layeringgot to me. Just recently tho.

Also sounds like it could have been on YC's Lift a Sail too

Funny you bring that up, since I was gonna throw out Lift a Sail as a comparison for this record. Interesting though how differently they were received – while this album has been getting mostly praise or at least indifference, there's very little of that "this sucks" attitude LaS got thrown at it all over the place. It's interesting.

Yeah, I think ATL is a little more committed to the sound that they're going for on this than LaS was. Also, it's more digestible for a wider audience than songs like Transmission Home and Deepest Well were.

I think it has to do with the fact that Future Hearts was already leaning towards this sound so people kind of expected something like this. LaS was more of a departure from the sound of Southern Air.

loved their last 2 albums. this one didn't do much for me outside of "dirty laundry."

Yep. He did that one and "Damned If I Do," which actually sounds like a Marvelous 3 song. I would love them to do a full record with him.

I don't hear this comparison even a little bit. Haha

This band has never produced an album as good as I felt that they had the potential to going all the way to being blown away by their debut EP. Each album has a few bangers, but then a ton of lame duck shit. I think he has a great voice and the band has explored their sound fair enough, but its always some of the writing that takes me right out of it. Having said that, I adore Dirty Laundry, and find the other singles released serviceable, but I hope theres some more stuff on here to be excited about.

Whilst I'm loving LYR I never thought I'd say this but I'm still drawn to The Maines new album Lovely Little Lonely more at the moment. There is not a song I don't like on that album whilst there's a few on LYR I'm not too into at the moment. Of course that could all change it's still early days.

It's not a sonic comparison so much as a comparison of where each album fits into its respective band's career and the way it changes their trajectory, if that makes any sense. Though in the most basic sense, both albums do show the bands taking a step back from writing mostly straight ahead pop punk songs, letting the songs breathe, and incorporating electronic elements.

  13. Sounds like they're actually confident in what they're doing for the first time since Nothing Personal.

This is...fine. It's not bad, but it's not for me. Good production, Alex sounds good, but not immediately feeling any desire replay it right now. I really hate some of the lyrics on this thing lol.

Oh alright, that's cool then! I'll prob get around to listening to it later today.

Totally agree, although Nothing Personal & SWIR are both pretty much tied as my favorites from them.

I still remember the day Weightless premiered on absolutepunk. That song/album is what made me a fan of this band

I don't think they've released anything nearly as good as that song since, sadly. :/

  17. The studio version of Therapy is kinda weak. I think the full band parts take away from the emotion. Honestly, the Straight to DVD version is miles better. Also best song on Nothing Personal is A Party Song (The Walk of Shame). Such a banger.

that record has a few of their best and many of their (non dirty work league) worst. and i used to adore that record

hello brooklyn and too much are horrendous. few others are not good. the "sound" on that record is so bad compared to a lot of their other ones

Weightless is a great song, but it's the weakest of the opening three songs of NP.

I remember eagerly sat at my desk waiting for the premiere of Weightless to go live on AP.net (fun fact the site couldn't take the heat and crashed there was that many people waiting for it!) and then being blown away by the single. I have to admit it's been overplayed a lot since it's release and has gone down my favourite songs list.

Nothing Personal is a fantastic album, Too Much is really the only weak song for me on it. Hello Brooklyn is still some fun.

Party Song might be my favorite off the album.

"Backseat Serenade" is still their best song.
