Trying really hard not to listen to this until tomorrow when my pre-order comes in.

Haha, I still really wish I hadn't listened to Good Times, but that wasn't gonna happen.

I think this is the first ATL album where there isn't a song or two I felt could have been cut. I've never heard the band sound so sure of themselves throughout an entire album.

I don't know, but it really does sound like someone else in the prechorus and at the end

Edit: I guess I mean the chorus

I think it's Alex, they just use a lot of cool vocal effects throughout the album. Like someone pointed out, it sounds like Jason Lancaster is singing backup on Dirty Laundry...but it's just Alex and a vocal effect.

I'm just gonna say one more thing and then rant over: it's both hilarious and frustrating that people still come at this band for being a "Blink ripoff", even as they're coming out with an album like this that shows creativity and evolution while Blink is still writing shitty pop punk songs and pretending to be teenagers.

Oh yeah, it totally does, I hadn't thought of that.

Yeah some of the vocal effects are pretty crazy on this, haha. He sounds like a totally different person on parts.

Also, I've gotta say, the drum tones on this record are fucking amazing.

Not sure how I feel about this overall, but "Dark Side of Your Room" is a goddamn jam.

You could put that song right on Love Drunk and no one would notice.

I'm so excited to listen to this, especially after these reactions. Probably won't bother with the leak, but I'll listen when it hits Apple Music tonight. I didn't realize how much I was ready for All Time Low to really shake things up until they started releasing these singles. Another album continuing the Future Hearts type sound would've just been kind of boring.

At times this feels like a complete curveball, but there's plenty of stuff on FH that indicated this was coming. Just happened more quickly than I expected.

The jump from FH to this album is, to me, really reminiscent of what Paramore did in going from S/T to After Laughter.

  13. Honestly not impressed much with the album after one listen, a lot of the hooks just seem too predictable. Props to the band for trying something different for them, although this isn't that different from the pop stuff out now. I liked Dirty Laundry, Nice2KnoU, and Nightmares the most on a first listen, but lyrically and melodically a lot of this just doesn't grab me. The hooks are there but just (like I said) too predictable. My opinion will probably change a little - I hated Future Hearts at first and its grown on me a little since then - but overall I think this is another pass for me in terms of a full album of songs. I'm not one to cling to the pop punk past but I really think they wrote better hooks on a lot of their older stuff.

That being said I hope they keep exploring this sound and trying some weird new things. For now, it just sounds like a mediocre pop album instead of the above average pop punk they did before.

  14. What does "predictable" hook mean? What's an example?

I figure it probably means you can see where it's going before it does, but to me that's not a weakness. Well, at least not here. I've definitely felt that more straightforward pop punk bands suffer from predictable melodies before.

    music is all we got

This is, imo, the best album these guys have released since So Wrong. Nice2KnoU and Dark Side are definite standouts. I'm glad they've kind of switched directions, because everything since NP had been pretty terrible, FH especially, and this is rad.

  17. Yeah FTank has it right. I can basically finish the melody in my head before I've ever even heard it. It's not a bad thing by itself, just not something I enjoy in music. I guess I should qualify my thoughts on the record by saying that I don't think it's a bad record, just one that's really not for me (even though it uses a lot of elements I've been enjoying in music recently).

We had a similar argument when Future Hearts came out and I don't think you ever really understood my perspective on hooks in songs back then (although I can't check the old AP forums to check haha) so it's cool if it still doesn't make sense. I still support the band and am glad people are digging the record.

Also for examples the title track has a very predictable chorus. No left turns or "interesting" melodic changes. Again, not necessarily a bad thing, but not really what I want to spend my time listening to.

Yeah, I listened to Dark Side like 6x and Afterglow like 5x. Those are prolly my favourites along with Life of the Party. Dark Side is pretty bombastic though, I love it.

The tones and melodies on Afterglow take me to like an African Safari setting in my head for some reason :crylaugh:

Just finished my first listen. Really enjoyed it, and definitely think it's the band's most cohesive album to date.

  21. This album is really quite impressive. I agree with the general consensus, it's their most cohesive. Every song contributes to that nostalgic, summer vibe and the more electronic elements compliment the band so well. Easily at least a 9/10 for me.
Favorite track: Dark Side of Your Room
    Least favorite: Nice2KnoU

    Oh, give us your money!

I'm on Nightmares (which I love) and I'm really impressed by the album so far, the production is arguably my favourite part but the songwriting as well seems to be one of their best efforts at least since Don't Panic for me. They really nailed what they were going for, I hope this does well for them!

Yeah, some how i weirdly LOVE the production on the entire record, but really only love 3 songs.

Yeah man, it's weird. The songwriting is good, but they still aren't like...addicting songs to me. I didn't immediately wanna listen to any again, except for 3 maybe 4 of the songs.
