Tegan and Sara are a great addition to Ground Control

 

Once you get your head around Nightmares it's really cool. Dark Side is another favorite of mine, too.

 

Even after Dirty Laundry and Life of the Party, I wasn't really prepared for how different the new songs are.

 

Holy shit, the vocal harmonies in Afterglow are so One Direction hahaha

 

There's a lot of Andrew McMahon in Afterglow too.

 

I'm so glad I've only heard like 2 of these songs so far and even those I barely played. Excited to listen to this, especially if they're changing things up

 

Wow, I was not expecting this album to be as different as it was. I think Dark Side Of Your Room is my favorite right now

 

I wish I had only listened to two or three of the singles tbh, even if I never could have held out

 

As of now, Nice2KnoU-Life of the Party-Nightmares is the stretch I'm not as into. The rest is fantastic

 

Drugs and Candy seemed prettyyyy boring to me on the first listen. The end was kinda cool though.

 

Drugs & Candy is definitely one of my favorites right now

 

Halfway through and Good Times is my favorite that isn't Dirty Laundry. Drugs & Candy was also cool. Nice2KnoU is fine but it is probably my least favorite so far.

 

Will report back later when I've had a chance to listen. Really excited to hear Dark Side Of Your Room from the comments.

 

Interesting ... I think "Dark Side" is one of the worst songs they've ever done.

 

What??? I just heard it and was thinking the exact opposite

 

Gave this a listen just for the hell of it, Ground Control is really really good. Title track and Afterglow give me a lot of Bleachers vibes, like those songs enough. Don't care about hearing the rest again though.

Who is the other vocalist in Afterglow? Or is that just Alex?

 

Yeah I really love Dark Side

 

So huge and anthemic sounding. They've tried to write anthems before but this one definitely works the best.

 

Afterglow sounds a lot like Fire Escape by Andrew McMahon in the beginning. Still a cool song though.


After one listen this is pretty much immediately my favorite ATL album and imo the best thing they've ever done.

 

I dunno about my favorite. It has their most creative, fully realized, and confident sound though, that's for sure.

 

Fuck, Afterglow is lovely.

 

I also need to agree with everyone who is loving Dark Side of Your Room. That song was certainly a stand-out.

 

Standouts to me on first listen are:
Life of the Party
Dark Side
Afterglow.

Afterglow might be my favourite. Love all the tones and everything on the album, alex sounds the best he's ever sounded...some of the songs just didn't quite do it for me. I think there are 4 or 5 that are super solid that i'll listen to A LOT.

 

It'll take a bunch more listens for me to figure out how the sequencing works. It's hard with the singles so concentrated together. In particular, I'm not totally convinced about Dirty Laundry at that track 3 spot.

 

I remember a while ago saying that this would be a weird transitional album for them. It's actually a lot more established in the new sound than I expected after hearing Dirty Laundry and Life of the Party (even though the former is still a highlight for me). I'm so impressed with how confident the whole thing feels, like the band just nailed exactly what they were going for. It's completely opposite of the way Dirty Work always felt to me.
