Yep, that definitely happens. It doesn't usually bother me too much, personally. If I liked the songs on the EP and the rest of the record is good, I don't feel cheated. I do like it more when the artist integrates the new songs into the tracklist than when the EP is just the first half of the record and the new stuff is the second half.

i remember a specific incident from like six years ago when a band i really loved put out a 12 song album two years after putting out a 7 or 8 song "EP" and it was the same thing with just a few new songs. i never gave it that much thought because i had already worn out so many of those songs. not the same case as what you said of course but just an anecdote

It's definitely a thing where there are do's and don'ts. Like, I feel like if you've already released more than half of the record as an EP, you should just put out another EP. The John Mayer rollout from this year is an example of it working badly. If the EP is like four or five songs and the album is 12, I'm pretty okay with it. This also happens a ton in country music as a way for labels to test the waters with newer artists, so I may have just gotten more used to it in the past few years.

My level of excitement for this album is through the roof with release being so close.

Weird time to release a song, but I like it. Only listening once to save it for the album.

I'm actually going to wait on this one since it's only 2 days away and I want to save more than half the album for Friday. Any thoughts from someone who's heard it?

Great song, probably the best on the album next to the Tegan and Sara collab.

To me it's sort of a combination of Cinderblock Garden and The Edge of Tonight. They've never written a song that embraced the layered pop sound quite this much.

  10. I really dig this one. Kinda evolves on the sound from "The Edge of Tonight" but a little more fleshed out and well structured.

After just one more listen, Good Times is fucking great. I couldn't resist...

So for me, there of the singles are firmly in "love" territory while the other two are fine but I'll have to see how they fit in context, those being Nice2KnoU and Life of the Party.

I guess I'll just wait and see how the album sounds front to back, but idk, these songs sound/have been pretty boring imo, especially compared to all the great albums that have been released this year already. I don't think I've had the urge to listen to these songs more than two times, hopefully it grows on me. Other than that, happy to see ppl enjoying this and the band seems happy with it too

They've had a good history of making sure their albums don't leak early. I remember being in the same boat when NP was about to drop.

Yeah, I also didn't hear Don't Panic until Hopeless streamed it, but Dirty Work and Future Hearts were definitely out there early. Most albums seem to come out by the day or two before release, just because there are so many CDs out there.

I think I overplayed the singles. Not that I like them any less now, but the full album listen is weird so far with five of the first six songs being ones I'm really familiar with. It's hard to get a feel for the flow of the album that way.

I'm not really sure about Nightmares on first listen. The hook on Dark Side of Your Room is insane though.
