I think he's more or less always been that way. He inherited an ungodly amount of money and just puts his name on already established hotels and properties. Half the things of his that were started from scratch were straight up failures. If it weren't so scummy it'd be impressive at how good a con artist he is, when it comes to making people believe he's as successful as he claims.

The thing that bums me out the most is all my friends from the military that post his shit and I just want to be like. Would you seriously listen to a leader with no plan while deployed? Likely answer is no. And then respond with them why do you want him.

Most people here probably won't like this response but I hope some of these generals that have been retiring start running for office. It's sickening to see all the non leaders that have decided they can be president this year.

Despite my dislike for him as a person and candidate, you are not wrong here. He's rich, and honestly, self-funded means that he does not have to align his views with Wall Street, Comcast, and all the other evil forces behind Hilary (FWIW, I'm in full support of Hilary, as I align pretty well with most of her views). BUT his association with the rich means he's out there to please the rich, so he's playing the same cards that someone that relies on the PAC. Whereas Bernie is relying on money from the people, so he's playing to please the people.

Arguments that Trump is "fairly" liberal in my opinion, are just hogwash. Hilary is considered liberal, and if this election were 30 years ago she'd be considered a Republican. We're just working on this sliding scale where the GOP is now radically fascist and the Democratic party is now uber-conservative (for a liberal). Bernie is doing a great job at sticking to his socialism and showing the world what a liberal actually is and it'd be great if he had a shot. Trumps liberalness is because he can't make up his mind and he just talks in circles. If you look at his views, he's in opposition of most democratic hot-topics.

To the point above, a lot of authoritative careerman/women are in support of him, which is equally as scary. Most cops I know (which is plenty, as my partner is one) are in support of Trump because he's not a democrat and Obama fucked them. This is clearly not entirely true, but Obama spent a lot of time endorsing BLM and a lot of time ignoring every police officer that got killed by the movement. Neither party has been entirely correct, but the democrats have not found a way to voice their concerns over police brutality without attacking police as a whole. Whereas the GOP (and specifically Trump) are basically like "I LOVE AMERICA AND THE POLICE R THE BEST".

Same goes with military men and women. They see "KILL ISIS AND THEIR FAMILY AND KEEP OUT ALL MUSLIMS" and it sounds like Trump is rallying support behind the military. He's not.

Non-leaders in what sense? I've seen people use the "he never had to run anything" argument before in years past. They used it with Obama, and said someone who was a governor would be a better fit because they actually ran something, but I don't really buy that. I think if you understand how it works then in a "leadership" sense, you're as good as anyone else. Then you have to get into the whole other game of are your policies actually any good and helpful. I think there's way more that comes into it than just being a leader.

That and the president isn't nearly as powerful as some people would like to believe, especially when it comes to domestic policies.

Give leadership the bad rap you want or say it's not important but leaders get things done. These generals have worked through more complex problems and have made decisions and learned from them that none of these candidates can even fathom. They know how to effectively run a staff and give them the proper guidance for them to execute their vision of what needs to be done. I just find it very hard to not want that kind of experience in the White House vs what we have now. I'll agree that some may not be well versed in domestic issues as we like but I have full faith they would surround themselves by those who do.

The idea that people should be tolerant of trump or accept him or respect his opinions or whatever is hilarious to me. i dont respect fascism

I mean, that's kind of the same exact argument people use for supporting the likes of Trump and Romney. "They run huge corporations, they can run a country." That's not to say nobody in those positions is capable of being good at running the country, and leadership skills help anywhere in life, but to say they'd automatically be a better fit because they ran one kind of business/institution/etc is incredibly simplifying what a president is required to do. The entire US government isn't just a business or just a branch of a military.

I'll never understand the "we should have someone who isn't a politician to be the highest level politician" mindset.

We have the mindset of the highest person in the military is a civilian so how is that any different?

That's a separate issue and a whole other debate. It's also one specific branch of a very large government. Someone with one niche, be it business, military, or any number of things, usually isn't going to be best qualified to run an entire country.

Good presidents and bad presidents aren't made good or bad because of their former profession. It's a little absurd to think someone would be qualified just because they're not a politician. That rhetoric gets repeated over and over again, with little substance to it. That's like saying a basketball team should fire their coach because he's bad, and instead hire a former football player just because he's an outside point of view. Replace a politician with a better one, don't go and think too far outside the box.

Just because Eisenhower did it doesn't mean it's a great plan.

uhhhhhh.......................no you wouldn't. fascism is an ideology, not a form of government. fascism with a "good leader" is fascism with a fascist leader. all fascists are evil.

Lol is this a joke or do we really need to give a rundown of why things are a little bit different 240 years later?

Will admit I was using fascism as a blanket term for a dictatorship and not its actual political side.

Washington was better as a president then a military leader, I'll give him that.

Yeah when you responded with that I was like "well why not?" (Pre edit of course) and looked up what the official meaning of fascism was and didn't realize it was standing for that national movement, just thought it meant a modern dictatorship haha. Twas my mistake, you're right.

It was a joke. But you are so quick to discredit them because what I'm assuming is your view that the military is bad.

That's quite an assumption, one which nobody in this thread had even remotely brought up. I don't care what line of work you pick. Electing someone to run an entire country, let alone one as powerful and influential as the US, based on little more than their former job description is asinine regardless of what they did.

I agree but you very much are run on your past performance shows you are the best person for the job. Honestly it's no different than any other hiring/interview process other than its very public. I present to you my background/vision of with that why I'm the best person for that job. All I'm saying is initially Trumps background interested me but what he is as a candidate disgusts me. Then I brought up based off their background I do think some of these generals who have retired in the past 5 years would be good candidates to run. Granted they could get up there and start spewing Trump type nonsense and I wouldn't want them either.

I go to basic in August, and the thought of coming out of boot camp in November to a Trump presidency is far more scary to me than possibly being shot at. It boggles my mind that people can be so dumb.
