Early opinion is that both songs are worse than anything on The Season. Or at least just at a Subject to Change/Churchdoors level (which I think are the two non exceptional songs on that record).
I don't super disagree with the second paragraph. I don't go back to Movement much at all and Get My Cut is pretty underwhelming for me. Still excited for the record, even more so after reading Jason's first impressions a couple of weeks ago.
Although I love Get My Cut, I don't think it would be fair to judge the entire album on the two songs that have been released so far.
Me too man. It's so good. I don't get the comment about it not feeling genuine...the end of All My Friends are Dead, when he's singing about his wife, is up there with some of his most emotive stuff.
Honestly, I think his best set of songs are on 'Ground Me.' But I don't see how people are disliking these 2 new songs. I think the problem is 'The Season' was out before most of us followed the band so we had that whole album to digest all at once, in context without anticipation etc. It's gonna be hard to get that same feeling/excitement from this second album when we have singles and are anticipating every move, but I think they will pull it off for me anyway.
I think we need to just trust that when we hear everything in context of the record we will enjoy it more. there is no reason to believe this album won't deliver until it doesn't
My problem with this song is that it sounds like he is actively trying to sound like Andy Hull. Like before there were similarities but he was very much his own vocalist. It just feels like a watered down Manchester song with worse lyrics.
I really just hear Nathan on this but idk, to me it sounds like something that could fit on the solo record
I like everything this band has done and I enjoy Movement and I think the new singles are good. Y'all need to take a deep breath and relax a little, wait until the entire thing comes out! Haha.
I anticipated The Season like it was Christmas morning for the better part of three and a half years and love every second of it to this day. I'm not completely sure what the dynamic was back in the day as far as songwriting, but I'm starting to wonder if it's not a coincidence that I don't immediately love all the songs that have come out since Mel and Gordon's departures.
Haha me and you were two of like 5 posters in the old AP all get out thread. It was at the point where I would check every single day for updates on an album. This was back when they still had a MySpace. New all the words to 7/10 songs on The Season years before it even came out. Probably a big part of why I love that one so much. Everything out out since has been completely new and so that must be part of why it doesn't connect quite as much.
This haha. Almost all of those songs were already floating around as demos. Still blew away my expectations though.
I feel like everyone that's been remotely negative has also said they still love this band and are exited for the record. I believe I preemptively called it my likely AOTY without hearing so much as a note from it.
Yeah I assumed it would be too but I'm going to wait before I give it that title because this year has been ridiculous and still isn't over.
I've never listened to ETID. Seems like it would be louder than my typical taste in music. If I'm missing out on something lmk.
I don't typically listen to a lot of heavy music and they're one of my favorite bands. It Remembers seems to be the new single they're pushing..it's a bit of a departure from their usual sound, but it might be a good jumping off point if it strikes your fancy.
