This is a good point, and pretty accurate when I think back to some of the descriptions during the whole pre-release promo cycles of some "disappointing" albums in the last few years..
The front half of this is so much better than the back half in my opinion. i think sideways is one of their weakest songs spanning all their releases. I've also never really heard enough similarities to MO to call them MO 2.0 but I must be wrong because everyone else does.
the opening riff of Sideways reminds me of some other song but I can't pin down what. Anyone have any thoughts?
sideways grew on me too. i think i just didn't expect this to be as sweet/sentimental as it is, and the first two singles certainly didn't prepare me for that. now i'm in board. very excited to get my LP!!!
Whatever sounds like it could have been on the last 3 MO records to me. And to a lesser extent, the guitars in Get My Cut have a pretty MO vibe to me. I guess those are really the only similarities I actually hear and probably don't justify writing it all off as "MO pt. 2" but I don't really know how to articulate why I'm not as into this as I wanted to be... Still gonna have a blast seeing them and ILAVLAC front to back at The Stuffing in a couple of weeks tho
It's interesting that while I've binged this I've also started listening to right away great captain more lol
I may take a few on Wednesday but I always watch with my eyes and just hope the camera is picking up the stage lol
Probably my favorite moment on the whole album. Has the same kind of energy that hypes me up like the "NATURE HAD ANOTHER PLAN" part of Mexican War Streets on mewithoutYou's Pale Horses
The Season never really clicked with me (I should give it another chance sometime) but I immediately love this album.
I think this album could bring in some people who didn't like the season bc of the vocals. Vocals are a lot cleaner on here
sort of why i think this is boring, missing the "passion" (i know that's a dumb term) of the last, it feels a lot less explosive
at this point to me it's just another boring alt rock album like a bunch of the other ones people have been hyping on here this year (ceres, microwave, etc) but even less dynamic
ehhhh all those bands you post a lot about bore me for the most part lol i've listened to enough of those bands for a lifetime
I think this really what did the trick for me. It kind of reminds me of the how The Republic of Wolves shifted their sound and the vocals in particular on No Matter How Narrow, which I loved.
