Exceptional live band, they're shoutier live too. He basically screams every other phrase Last time I saw them was on the transit YNE tour though so lol
So much of this record feels like a follow up to that album, not just the acoustic songs either, there are some insanely catchy songs on that album that translate to writing catchy melodies here. Do I wish there were maybe one or two more songs like ATX sure but we also got movement last year which was pretty much 5 heavier songs and this is a nice ying to that EPs yang. Very interested to see where he goes next apparently he's already written a lot of his next solo record and the next all get out record. I think that he will make up for lost time and put out a lot of music over the next couple of years, it would be cool if he finds a way to alternate between his solo stuff and all get out every other year or year and a half or so. Anyway I think once people clear their expectations of this and some new fans hear this for the first time, I could see this album possibly blowing up and becoming a scene classic like you mentioned
As long as we're continuing the manorch comparisons, I would call this their ilav to seasons metn, haha. There's some really cool stuff on here. Sideways and whatever stick out to me as two of the bands best.
"maybe i could make a decent dollar selling tshirts or quit it all and take an easy dollar from your church." haha, thats gonna be a fav.
I could see that especially since this isn't as heavy as metn, hard to compare it actually it's just really good haha
"Whatever" has been fucking me up for a solid month now. "I'm at my best when you look happy, when you finally get your win." the delivery is so heavy to me.
100% agree but I don't think a catchy chorus makes a good song. Don't get me wrong, I love the song. I just think it's the weakest. The whole "one hand, two hands, one hand, I don't know" part is pretty meh to me.
Gonna have to listen to this a ton before I form a legit opinion haha. Only have listened twice but am just not that blown away by most of it. The Season is in my top 10 all-time though so my expectations for this were basically through the roof. I will say right off the bat that I miss the zany little guitar lines and vocal deliveries that were littered all over the last two releases and seem to be mostly absent here. Again, just gonna take some getting used to. ATX, Whatever, Sideways, Empty Nest, Get My Cut are all tracks I pretty much at least immediately liked though!
There's a lot of lyrical similarities in the songs too. Especially the whole Lyric#1 positive statement, Lyric#2 lol jk. "I'm nicer than you could know. I'm lying." "I'm sober. I'm not at all." "I'm alright. Or not at all."
thats another thing that reminds me of METN. there also seems to be bits of inner-connectivity between the songs as well. the most obvious being "What do I know".
Anyone else notice that the "now you've got it" chorus is melodically the same as that of the first two songs, except for a slightly different rhythm? It took me a few listens to get over that and enjoy the song. I wonder if that was an intentional callback.
Never heard Nathan sing about teeth until he started working with Andy.. coince really great band and this is their third really consistent release
Yeah, I thought that sounded familiar on my first listen, haha Interesting, on the season it was the closing tracks and the last song on side a that were related, and on this one it's the opening two and the first on side b that are related
This is probably the third time I've said this, but I don't care: Empty Nest is so good. Easily my favorite here.
