I love that AGO and OBro both have Soma song titles. BNW is such a fantastic book. Also when I was trying to learn guitar in high school I wanted to name my future band Soma Holiday. Haha
First review I've seen (if into that sort of thing): ALBUM REVIEW: Kodak - All Get Out - Distorted Sound Magazine
This is great so far, might end up being my favorite of theirs. EDIT: Walk Me Through It is exactly what I needed, so good
Definitely feels like a grower after only one listen. Nothing really blew me away. AA Almanac and Sumter and the clear standouts to me but I've listened to those a ton already.
So… what does everyone think? I just wish I hadn’t heard so many songs beforehand! This is definitely not No Bouquet. I like that it’s 10 songs but over 40 minutes long.
I can’t really articulate why but I don’t really like any of this..like at all. I got through like 7-8 songs on the drive to work this morning and it almost feels like everyone is playing a different song to me? Maybe I just need more time/familiarity but man I’ve liked every record since The Season considerably less and that bums me out considering how much that record means to me.
I think part of that could be due to The Season being almost like… a completely different band from what All Get Out has been since then? Movement and Quitter may have had some of those same members, but even that group of songwriters differs from No Bouquet and Kodak. You’re far from the only person that feels this way. I love the directions Nathan continues to take with this project, but there’s no doubt that The Season show I attended last fall was the biggest turnout for an AGO headliner I had seen in a while!
I've come to really love the singles so I expect the rest will click for me in time. The vocals seem very buried in a lot of the songs to me. Hard to make out most of the lyrics.
This album has a really nice flow. I do like No Bouquet a bit more on first listen because it has a more raw sound.
