Top 10 Danny songs: Burned is the House Take Lots With Alcohol If You Had a Bad Time Fine Every Thug Needs A Lady Crawl Balanced on a Shelf Smoke Broken Wing Buried Maybe not in that particular order, but I think those are the ones I love the most. Obviously it's missing You've Got So Far to Go and Kick Rocks, so it's not perfect. Also, I'm excited for the next Trio record because it's Dan's turn to provide the closing track, if the past several records are any indication.
I don't get how people could criticize Skiba for joining Blink. If one of the biggest legacy punk bands asks you to fill-in and record, I don't see how you say no to that if you have nothing else in the works. At the very minimum it's good publicity for Alkaline Trio to some degree. I also think the down time is good in the sense that it will prevent things from getting stale. Given the three members have been doing other projects for a while now, when Alk3 does return, it's going to be a lot of fun. Those shows and the next album will be really memorable imo. On the topic of Dan songs, Emma is easily my favorite and I understand not many on this site think it's a favorite. I love that song's simple structure, melody, and the actual story.
So after sharing a bunch of clips on his IG, Derek has started an "Alkaline Trio Archives" on youtube and he's posting a bunch of vids (with some definite extra footage and bells and whistles like labeling what song he's drumming in the vid and what not) from the old Blood Pact vids that they did. I just really, really hope the "dib-dub" video resurfaces. Also, def think he's doing this to keep Alk3 fans satiated a bit while Matt's doing his blink thing. Pretty cool of him to do, really.
This is the double-edge sword of Matt joining Blink, right. I do think this down time is ultimately a good thing for the group. The past few cycles have been robotic for them. It's good to break it up a bit. Plus, the Falcon has been more active this year. I am hopeful that the next Trio album will be something memorable.
Oooh I missed an opportunity to pick my top 10 Danny (alk 3 only) songs. Hmmm... Burned Is The House In My Stomach If We Never Go Inside Smoke I Was a Prayer Do You Wanna Know? Broken Wing In Vein Maybe I'll Catch Fire Every Thug Needs a Lady Fuck that was hard. I don't even agree with my own list. It definitely changes from time to time.
That's a damn good list. Of course, there are no wrong answers when it comes to favorite Danny songs. The man is just too good.
So I've been listening to some deeper songs recently (sparked mainly by Love Love Kiss Kiss and Hell Yes, both of which are great - I was tending to stick to different albums before) I've come to the conclusion that Alk3 have a habit of writing really, really good albums about a year before or after they would have been super popular. Crimson and Good Mourning both came out just too early to capitalise on the Hot Topic boom. Agony and Irony came out just when pop-punk was on the wane. My Shame is True got released right before pop-punk suddenly became in vogue again... (Granted, this is mainly to help me rationalise the fact that Calling All Skeletons is somehow not one of the best-selling pop-punk songs of all time.)
All I want in life is for Matt and Josiah to get back together and make love to me with another Heavens album.
The Blink album didn't really stick with me beyond a couple songs. I am more than fine with Alkaline Trio getting it going again.
I still like it for the most part, but I think it's primarily a summer album for me. Cynical, Bored to Death, No Future, and San Diego are my favorites. I'm wondering what effect, if any, Matt's experience in Blink will have on the next Trio album.
That would be rad. I also hope they work with Bill Stevenson again. My Shame is True has some of my favorite production they've ever had.
From a sound standpoint, I would be ok with Bill again. You can never go wrong with the Blasting Room.
Matt joining Blink was great and a no brainer. But I agree, I am ready for new Trio tunes. Seems like a lot of people here prefer Dan, but I have always been partial to Skiba. I think its mainly the vocals though.
Yeah, Matt would have been foolish to pass on Blink. While Dan and Derek didn't want this long of a break, I do think it was a good thing. I think the band and fans will be really ready to go again. I like both vocalists. I think it keeps their records from getting too one dimensional or samey throughout.
The Trio group on Facebook really seems like they lean towards Dan. I'm partial to Skiba too but I love em both in Trio pretty equally. I say Skiba cause I always love all of his projects but I don't get into the Emergency Room or The Falcon as much.
I love Dan's voice and in recent years, he's definitely trumped Matt in the writing department by miles. He's gotten better while I feel like Matt is middling. But still I like the sound of Matt's songs and side projects a lot more. I'm not into the more the more....folksy rock? Sound that Dan tends to lean towards.
