cameron webb behind the boards def has me more excited lmao, even though the travvy songs were better than they had any right to be. the less gloss and polish on these guys the better as far as im concerned
I really liked Bloody Valentine and I'm not ashamed of it, that's a fun song....but didn't get into the other singles like everyone else did
Do we add this to the “Travis is actually recording with them and Tosh is the touring hired gun” theory?
To be clear: - In February, Atom announced his departure via Instagram. Is there drama? Not sure. Both Dan and Matt have ‘liked’ recent photos Atom has posted. Odd there was never an official announcement from the band, though. - Later that month, photos were posted from Travis’ studio, suggesting a new album with Travis producing. - Further photos from the studio revealed Travis also tracking drums for the new album. - In March, a tour with Rise Against was announced. - Towards the end of March, Tosh was announced as Atom’s replacement, when a considerable amount of the new album had already been recorded. - Tosh confirms Travis is producing the new album. - In April, the band took a break from recording with Travis, so Matt could continue demoing. - Earlier this month, Matt revealed they were planning to record a cover of “Re-Education (Through Labor),” for a split 7” to coincide with the tour. - Cameron Webb has seemingly recorded the cover. - They’re now back in the studio with Travis to finish the album. I think that covers everything.
damn so it is travis doing the album? can't win lmao. i guess the ittc/bh&e high cant last forever also a side note but of all the rise against songs to cover that one feels like a weird one for them
idk Travis Barker drumming on an Alkaline Trio album just feels wrong to me....maybe it's because he has such a distinct sound and my brain won't be able to shake the Blink 182ness of it. Listening to Blood hair and eyeballs right now, and obviously he didn't join until Good Mourning but it's just not going to feel like Alkaline Trio to me without Derek on the album, who also has a distinct style. Maybe I'll be proven wrong but....bummer.
I don't really care one way or another. If it's not to my liking, there's plenty of older Trio material with other drummers. If it's good, it's a bonus and we get another enjoyable Trio record.
The production was fine on those singles released last year? I mean, some folks alluded with their comments those singles were some of their best songs in years.
yeah and others alluded to them being overproduced and a step back from their last handful of albums which were loaded with some of their best songs in years everyone likes what they like, im just stating my perspective that this is them going on the road away from what i perceive to be their strengths. it is what it is, but it is what it is. im sure itll be at least solid
For one single year, all artists should release their albums with totally blind credits to remove all this bias.
I can already tell you that at least 50% of the FB Trio groups are going to dislike it simply cause of Travis, no matter the quality and that's sad for them lol I think OMT has it's issues but after that with the Deluxe edition, Yellowcard album and the Trio singles, I'm fine with getting a Trio album from/with him. I think it'll kinda be like a more powerful sounding Agony & Irony.
Regardless of drummer, I'm excited for new Trio and from clips of Tosh playing the songs on his Instagram, he plays the songs way closer to what Derek was doing on the tracks. Atom was great, don't get me wrong, but he changed up some of the frills and style a bit and as a drummer, I didn't love that. Cool to see Tosh honoring the parts more.
