I always assumed it was because AVA was winding down a bit after that first Blink reunion and Atom was looking for a more stable gig.
Yeah most likely but the timing was weird. He quit in October of 2011 and then the band went on a US/Australia/European tour in late January 2012 to May to support the Love albums and played in some pretty big festivals starting in June to August that summer too. Those were probably all booked already when he quit. If anything you’d think he would have quit in 2009 before blink started up their two big tours not after those ended.
I think the most likely thing was Travis playing parts on the new record and Atom feeling side lined. Tosh explicitly said Travis is doing parts and that he thinks it’s going to be incredible. I don’t think it’s outrageous for a person as seasoned as Atom to respectfully decline not having parts on a new album as a member of the band. I feel psyched to hear what this record sounds like and bummed Atom is in and out so fast. also I don’t think Tosh will be in long standing member unless AK3 slows way down. He’s been a run and gun drummer for a ton of folks and is currently doing world tours with Lady Gaga. It’ll be a lot of fun to see him rip for a while tho.
Yeah, it's wild to speculate two veteran drummers getting into a spat about who gets to record, then one leaving the band over it lmao.
please don't bring random ass fanfiction about their drummers into this thread. Feel free to post links to interviews or posts about their drummers, but we don't need fanfiction
I swear I saw an interview when oblivion came out where Atom said how cool it was to have someone like Travis give feedback on his recording. Am I imagining this?
I don’t think it’s salacious to say it’s expected for him to play drums on the records he produces. Feldy got him to track a NOFX record and YC originally had Nate from anberlin tracking when they started the writing and once Travis became the producer he did that album. I don’t see it as a nefarious thing or even all that dramatic. Also as I said earlier Tosh confirmed Travis is doing the album. I wouldn’t be surprised if atom left for different reasons, but I don’t think it’s “running with it.” It’s been the trend since he has been so active as a producer. I was surprise and stoked atom did drums on the ep. Is there anything That at anyone knows of that Travis produced and didn’t track all drums? The only thing I can think of is the ak3 ep. idk I’m not coming at it from a “love the drama” perspective it just seems likely. No one has emphatically stated “atom left because they wanted Travis to track drums instead of him” so who knows. I didn’t know it was a contentious take based on his history producing and people generally being really excited at having him be involved at that level when he produces.
Travis did drums for Cokie The Clown. You think Travis is kicking Smelly off drums? Travis is doing drums after Atom leaving. Again, if Atom was Trio's drummer, Travis is not gonna push him out. See: the EP he produced for them lol.
lol my intention was not to kick up shit. I’m sure we will all hear what happened at a later time. I love Travis, Tosh, and Atom as drummers and I would have loved a full release with atom on it. I learned drums playing those early Ava records and it was super rad ak3 with atom did a run with blink. I’m also really excited to hear this record. I hope it does really well. The YC single is regularly playing at the gym and it’s really cool to see some of these 00’s pop punk bands getting their flowers in 2026.
my bad on that. I officially submit myself an ill informed poser to the forum on that one lol. The Nate lore and the early YC production talk is in Nate’s pod “drums?” Aside from the ep does Travis have credits as a producer but not tracking on anything else?
Sick. Do we know if that's what all the studio updates have been or is it that + recording a new full length?
So Travis kicked Atom out of the band then refused to work with them once they hired Tosh? What a dick.
Travis and Atom were in the closet making babies and I saw one of the babies and the baby looked at me.
The internet fan conspiracy theories that think Travis was responsible for Atom leaving the band. I was making fun of those. My post wasn’t meant to be serious.
