Yes and do a lot to downplay the comments even existing, but it still is (kinda) funny to me how different the vibe is from there versus everywhere else. Instant bad faith. Lots of early internet comment section energy.
Just seems like such a random choice after Atom seemed so natural a fit. Also I guess it’s just funny that he’s a lot younger than them haha
Bands are in tension between the popular ideal of how they work and the reality that there are lots of people involved and being a business means you have to make business decisions. Really there are only two people (Matt and Dan) who know why Atom's not a part of the band. It could be as simple as he didn't want to take a backseat to Travis or be an employee / touring drummer only; it could be extremely complicated. We as fans have an impression behind the scenes but ultimately we will never know the whole truth. Tosh does feel random, or like a record label exec thought his social media following would be good for the band. Knowing that he's done Alk3 covers before fills me with more confidence. But ultimately Alk3 is Dan and Matt to me, and always will be.
Always wondered how much income someone in a band at the level of Alkaline Trio actually makes per year, on average.
Idk what kind of backseat Atom would take to Travis. He drummed on the three singles. People just hear the name Travis or Feldmann and assume they're dictators or something
guessing Atom has a certain level of pay he expects for his name and experience and at a certain point bands don't think he's worth it, especially if he's not writing songs
Someone made the observation that it’s the 20th anniversary of We Don’t Need to Whisper, Blink is taking the year off, Ilan is with the Foo Fighters, and Atom is a free agent. Probably unlikely but it would be cool to see AVA do that anniversary tour.
I mean I was also "who" in my mind haha, never heard of him before this. But I also kind of expected them to go the route of someone more unknown after Atom left, like I assumed they were gonna have Travis drumming on the album and then have a 'hired gun' of sorts touring drummer like TBS that I hadn't heard of before. Still think it's kinda crazy how abruptly Atom left, really am curious what the impetus/disagreement was that led to that
I’m sure, like almost everything else in life, it is about money. Maybe Atom gave them an ultimatum of “Make me a permanent member of the band instead of just a touring member or I’m out” and Matt/Dan balked. Was it ever clear why Atom left AVA? That one seemed out of nowhere too. Maybe the guy just has commitment problems.
