I just always found it jarring to hear that version in the middle of Crimson just because it clearly doesn't have the Jerry Finn sound that the rest of the album has.
I have grown to enjoy the remains version, but the orchestral flourishes after the bridge in Crimson are just too fucking gorgeous to minimize. I know that’s not really their sound, and that’s why it was so surprising and beautiful when I heard it, especially for a song about this kind of subject matter. But hearing this for the first time in years, I got the same goosebumps as I did when I heard it the first time. That’s a great piece of art.
Wow, I have the actual download on my phoen and didn't realize that the Remains version was on the album on streaming, I would have hated that The album version of Sadie is my favorite song by them and probably one of my favorite songs ever
I always preferred the BYO/Remains version because I liked hearing the guitar in the little solo, where it gets drowned out by the strings in the Crimson version. But still love the Crimson version
It hasn’t switched on Apple Music yet Edit: Looks like you have to search for Crimson and one of the two versions has the Crimson version. If you go direct from their Artist page it still has the Remains version.
It's absolutely insane to me that this band will have been around for 30 years this year. Time is weird.
It would suck if the disagreement wasn’t about politics or touring, but about something with songwriting/partnership with the band. Asking to be considered a 1/3 member in regard to songwriting or something like that. A scenario like that would remind me of what happened with Relient K a decade or so ago. If that’s what happened, neither camp will outright say it but will hint at “creative differences.”
Ethan and the Johns were in Relient K band pics for years and their departures were due, significantly in part, to this very reason. But it never came to light until a decade later when it was water under the bridge because if either side said what the real reason is/was, it makes everyone look bad/greedy. I’m speculating big time here but perhaps Atom didn’t want to be a a hired gun/touring member only at this point in his career…
It's kinda weird how drummers are treated in general. Like it feels like Good Charlotte went 15 years without a drummer in an official band photo lol
Makes a ton of sense. Matt and Dan seemed to enjoy working with Travis and the songs sounded great. If they are already demoing and have ideas ready to go they might as well use Travis to record and find a replacement drumming afterwards for touring.
