Dan shared this reel and I’m just posting it here because this sounds like it could be my jam and I want to make sure I listen to it when I have time
came back to this tonight and yeah this is my shit. also during my laying here not being able to fall asleep reading, apparently this dude was the guitarist for Lektron with Matt and is the current “Nameless Ghoul” rhythm guitarist for Ghost
The "issue" with Travis' drum sound people have is the relationship between the samples and the real kit. He adds a lot of reverb in post and really cranks up the high end so you kinda lose some of the natural room tone. I feel like usually the cymbals are what keeps sampled shells feeling natural but when you're processing the overheads as hard as he does it all tends to sound mega polished. Personally I think it's a cool sound and I've always weirdly enjoyed when Alkaline Trio has been slightly "overproduced".
This is what travis barkers uses for his shells. Not samples. "The Quesadilla" (full coverage cloth heads with magnet tab)
- 3 songs recorded with Travis - They’re not sure when the other two will be released - Doesn’t sound like a new album is in the works
Giving Matt Skiba and The Sekrets an overdue first listen. Kuts is so, so, so good. Like an upbeat Heavens at times which is perfect.
The Blink record had some of the same problems with what I see as sloppy mixing and I was absolutely eviscerated in that thread at the time lol Song rules, but Travis does not fit this band's vibe.
Prob in the forum T&Cs at this point that criticism of his production will not be accepted. I'm not typically a fan of his style but I think this track sounds good - the drums actually sound like drums.
Song is and sounds great to me. I think between these new songs and Blood, Hair and Eyeballs, they're releasing some of the strongest material of their careers right now, which is crazy.
song is cool. it's my dad's favourite band so i'm excited to show him. when i showed him blood, hair and eyeballs he didn't stop playing it for months.
