Going through a breakup, so obviously I'm listening to a lot of Trio. And I gotta say, This Addiction is better than I remember it being! Also MSIT definitely holds up.
This Addiction gets a bad wrap but I love it. There’s not a bad trio album, just different moods. Oddly maybe I’ll catch fire is the one I go back to least.
This Addiction always got a bad rap in my friend group who enjoyed Trio because.. it was coming off the grandiose production and sound of Agony & Irony... This Addiction sounded way more stripped down and "less complicated" if that makes sense... I loved it then and love it still.
I agree with this. I listened to agony & irony today and was jolted by the “probably expensive” production of it. Weren’t they on an episode of Laguna Beach or something along those lines recording that album??
I think it was The Hills, they were demoing In Vein I think and one of the characters had like an internship at the studio or something like that
This Addiction is solid, especially if you replace Piss And Vinegar and Draculina with Dan's b-sides. Also when they toured that album was probably the best they sounded that I've seen them in my ten times. Touring with Cursive and having their trumpet player play on Lead Poisoning (great song) and switching instruments for Fine was great. I got my ass beat during Armageddon too, good crowd.
The production on Agony & Irony sounds better than any other album of theirs, to my ears. Every single element, the guitar and bass tones, the drum sounds..are just incredible. Probably my favorite Alk3 album.
A&I rounds out my top three along with GM and Crimson. I definitely like that gothic/poppy Trio the best
A&I is my 3rd favorite. That album reminds me of the summer that album came out. Calling All Skeletons is such a great opener. I also love In Vein.
A&I's lone clunker is Live Young, Die Fast. Drop that song, and add Burned is the House and In My Stomach, and you've got a stellar Trio album.
Yep my exact same thoughts. I know they never seem to want to go Dan heavy but those two songs definitely should have been on the album, with In My Stomach closing. And Live Young, Die Fast is definitely rough. It's so rough I often forget it's on that album because for the longest time I hadn't had it burned to my iTunes library haha Trying not to get into a rankings thing here but yeah A&I is usually either #2 or #3 on my list. If In My Stomach were the closer after Into The Night, it could possibly challenge GM for the #1 spot. Into the Night isn't a bad song, just not my choice as an album closer. Would work great as a penultimate song though. I come back to that song and Lost and Rendered the least, and they're both still good songs. I also don't revist Over and Out a lot but that's because I think I got sick of that one early on because I was listening to Derek's acoustic version a ton. Do You Wanna Know should have been a single.
My personal Agony & Irony track list that I made on Apple Music is as follows: Calling All Skeletons Help Me In Vein Over and Out I Found Away Do You Wanna Know? Burned is the House Lost and Rendered Ruin It Into the Night In My Stomach Bonus Track: Fire Down Below I think it flows pretty well! I like having the back-to-back Dan songs in the middle of the record because it reminds of the Every Thug/Blue Carolina combo of Good Mourning.
That contest they had to write Love Love using the sheet music kind of ruined the song for me lol. The bridge is great though
Just listened to a podcast that Dan was on today, Bleck and Abdalla podcast. Dan said they have a replacement and he's a "part of the family". Wouldn't shock me if it's Atom. Crossing my fingers that it is!
This.. that summer was awesome for me.. I remember it being a muggy, rainy summer, here in MI.. and I always associate Trio with that kinda weather now and it works for me.
