I honestly don't mind them not playing Radio. It's just an ok song at best for me. This probably belongs in the unpopular music opinion thread haha.
That's one of the things I love about Alkaline Trio shows. There isn't any single or fan favorite song they always play. Every set is always pretty different when I see them, and I never know what to expect. They also frequently pull out pretty deep cuts.
Will never get tired of Radio, even moreso cause the last few years it's felt to me like that's the song that the longtime fanbase uses to look down on newbies for loving. Like "Oh let me guess, your favorite song is Radio, right" and I hate things like that. It was one of their best songs when I first heard it and I've had no reason to change my opinion of it.
I know I am in the minority on Radio. I just don't particularly care for the song. Mostly indifference. I am for them playing it live since people love the song, but if I was making their set list for myself it would not be on there.
"Radio" is whatever. I'd take it or leave it. I was more surprised that "Stupid Kid" wasn't on the setlist. I just love that song so much. Glad to see "Crawl" on there though.
Also, this a pro shot I found from Dan's last tour with Derek on drums. I thought I'd post it just because Dan is fantastic at what he does.
I've been needing to catch Dan solo for years. Sucks that he's only coming to the westside of Michigan this tour.
I'm not as into Dan's solo stuff nearly as much as I am into Matt's but he and Matt Pryor play a free show in CT in April so I have no excuse to miss that lol
I got to see Dan on the Revival Tour in 2012 with Chuck Ragan, Laura Jane Grace, and Cory Branan. He talked to my friends and I afterwards and he was the nicest dude. Matt was the super cool when I met him the following year as well. Just gotta meet Derek now, who I'm assuming is super nice as well.
Derek is super nice. At the Dan show, I called his name and he actually pulled over into the corner to talk to me for a good 10 mins. After the set was done he gave me and my girlfriend a drum stick he used for her 7 year old son. People were super jealous ha.
I know Derek puts personalized notes into a ton of stuff people order from him, he seems awesome. The only time I've met them was when all three were signing Agony & Irony records before a show. All seemed super nice to me in that brief meeting haha.
I take the Doctor Who approach to this question. My first was Matt Smith, hence him being my favorite. My first Trio drummer was Derek, hence him being my favorite.
I am definitely a Derek guy. He didn't drum on some of my favorite Trio material, but I like his fit and his work with the Suicide Machines carries a lot of weight for me.
