i was, clumsily so i guess, trying to make the point that an artist that means the world to me doing something incredibly shitty in the 1970s is still something i grapple with. in the 2020s, 50 years later, for someone to be doubling down and backing the same activity in a much more blatant sense, it should be met more swiftly with opposition. i didn’t mean it as a qualitative thing at all. i though that was clear when i typed it but i guess it wasn’t so i’m sorry for that.
