I did not think I could cringe harder in an alk trio thread but we got .k out here saying the root of denouncing nazism is based around wanting tom delonge back in Blink 182 and darkhotline trembling at his keyboard pointing fingers at the mean internet forums upset at the continued promotion of bigoted shitheads making music daily

I’m not a mod, nor do I care about Alkaline Trio, but I do care about people in this thread.

@DarkHotline, that comment you made towards Derek was uncalled for. You don’t need me to tell you that, but that read as the bullying you mentioned.

I have never been good with confrontation, for numerous reasons. I couldn’t deal with being called out a few months ago, @alina can attest to that. I’m ashamed of my hypocrisy and cowardice. I am embarrassed of my spinelessness, especially when I show up in threads and don’t stand by my word personally. I am sorry. I don’t expect a response, not when I couldn’t dignify you with a reply. You were right to call me out.

With everything going on - the rise in Neo-Nazi extremism, the hate directed to AAPI people, governments attempting (and winning) to control trans and women’s bodies, the fact that five Indigenous Australians have died in Victoria police custody in a month - I just do not understand batting for a Nazi enabler. They are fucking dangerous, and the least Matt Skiba can do is say “sorry for offending members of communities, I didn’t realise the harm my actions + associations would cause”. He should do a lot more, like fuck off his nazi mates forever, but acknowledgment and an apology isn’t asking for much!

Yeah, Skiba is really good at just doubling down/blocking people rather than apologizing and learning. Just shows he doesn't care to be better, which is a shame. Am I going to delete all my pirated Alkaline Trio albums over this? Probably not. But am I going to say I'm a fan of Matt as a person? No. And am I only upset with Skiba because he replaced Tom DeLonge in Blink-182? Also no. Haha.

 

I'll admit that I didn't read far enough to see anything like that. I was just told about this exchange, and bummed me out that someone who is one of my favorite people here said somethin like that while I am still struggling. I get feeling overwhelmed and lashing out though.

I removed the post. It wasn’t fair to those struggling. It was the first thing I saw when I logged on today and i fired back from being upset about it, when there’s been so much vitriol thrown, it was hard not to sling it back, and obviously it wasn’t what I should’ve done.

 

If Matt is a neo Nazi or if he has interest in World War II/Nazism or the art affiliated with that culture are two different things. One is a belief system and the other is a historical interest.

Drawing conclusions to serve your motivations is a problem though.

Also, supporting the beliefs and actions of any hateful or racist group is wrong. I just don’t think that’s the conversation here. I think the conversation is about Skiba’s character, and some of his public behaviours that are either wrong or assumed wrong.

 

This is a wild argument to make lol. He was always a nazi, he just felt comfortable enough to be public with it after the song came out.

 

A recurring bit on Actionboyz is how fucking stupid it is to be like “no he’s not a nazi, he’s just a history buff. A buff about a very specific, ugly time in history and basically only that time in history”. Why not be a buff about feudalism or dragons or some shit

Post efficiency? This isn’t Twitter. Discussions about racism or racist allegations deserve a little more respect than just a few words and is honestly more important than some songs a guy wrote.
