Where is the line where things become unacceptable, that’s what I want to know. If it isn’t enough to have had a Nazi do spoken word on a song, what would be enough? I truly don’t get it.
So that’s the point of accountability, to either hold him accountable or to make sure it doesn’t get swept under the rug. The fact that people are pushing back against a reasonable and serious qualm, that Matt Skiba hangs out with and promotes literal nazis, is a bad look. This conversation gets contentious all the time because people are jumping to defend him instead of saying “yeah it’s fucked and stupid and he should apologize”
lol if you have to go to a totally different thread separate and apart from where the current conversation is happening to find even one post then no, no need to trouble yourself, my point has been proven
nobody has to treat this subject with kid gloves and the real obstacles here are the people getting bizarrely defensive over an asshole that doesn’t give a shit about you or the fact that you defend him
I mean, to a lot of us it’s infuriating to see people saying “welllll he’s not technically a nazi!” over and over and over again. We’re using strong language or hyperbole to get a point across because simply looking at the facts isn’t getting through to people. It’s a much better look to admit that he’s a problematic dickhead who makes music you like than it is to attempt to defend his actions because he made a good album 20 years ago. Taking one step away from the convo, weird online personal history with people removed, should make the “right” side of the argument very clear
Man if I start calling other adults on a music forum bullies cut off my fucking internet privileges immediately. Take my phone and put me in time out
People only have to keep defending him cause we can’t get one discussion in here without some nerd having to chime in about it EVERYTIME. Yeah we get it, it wasn’t the best look, pretty sure everyone has acknowledged it, why do we have it bring it up every second.
Everyone hasn’t acknowledged it, he hasn’t acknowledged it and allowing business as usual to continue means that he will never have to acknowledge it.
Personally, if the frontman for my favorite band got so close to a nazi that it caused people to bring it up constantly on the Internet, I’d be pretty pissed at the frontman of my favorite band for not nipping that in the bud.
Or if people created a narrative about the front person/vocalist of a band that I like being a Nazi because they want Tom Delonge in Blink 182 and not this frontman, I’d get tired of defending him or her too.
I straight up could not give a shit about who is in blink I used to love Trio and have been incredibly disappointed in Skiba and his actions and it’s turned me completely off the band. His constant promotions of this shit is exhausting, and his doubling down on it over and over has made me not want to support them.
